Gregg Perrah's 12th birthday is one he will never forget.

It changed, and shaped his life forever.

He was walking across the street with his best friend .

They were hit by a car going 55 miles an hour. was lying in

the street near Gregg. " I remember looking over at , then

trying to crawl to him to help him. " But Gregg was in shock and

completely unable to move. " It was like a dream where your awake,

but can't move, It was the most helpless feeling you could ever

imagine " When the paramedics finally arrived, Gregg overheard them

say " He's not going to make it, " he was in so much pain, that he

wasn't sure if they were talking about him or . died in

the street, not more than 10 feet away from Gregg. " On the way to

the hospital I remember the female EMT holding my hand in the back

of the ambulance the entire trip. " Every time I asked about my

friend, she would just squeeze my hand and say, `Just worry about

your self for now' we both knew what that meant. That was the

longest ride of my life. I knew right then I wanted to help people,

especially children in any way I could "

As soon as he finished high school, Gregg started working for an

ambulance company, where he worked for 13 years. He then started his

own safety training company. He named his company Helping Hands.

Their motto is " We help you to help others. " For nearly a decade

they have provided first aid and cpr training courses, and have

certified thousands of people in first aid & CPR.

Gregg, wanting to do more, has spent the last year

producing " The First Aid Reference Guide, " it is a book with nearly

100 illustrated pages, designed to help families handle emergencies

at home, work, and play. Gregg says a major goal and purpose of this

book is prevention. " If this book helps even one family, than it is
