My daughter has been on a minimal dose of Low Dose Naltrexone and we continue to dramatic results in her lab work. So I'm still a believer in the positive effects of LDN .We've received back my daughter's recent lab report. I've included alisting of all of her lab work done and our history below so you cansee her full journey. Her ALT/AST continues to decrease and it's nowaround the optimal range - from a high of ALT/AST 196/203 on 5/11/07to new results of 22/31 on 11/16/2007.At this point, she has not seroconverted the HBeAG or the HBsAG -she is still HBeAG & HBsAG positive. We hope she will continue herdownward progression of disease and eventually seroconvert!Especially with increaseing her LDN dosage level (from 1 mg to 3 mg) and returning to the other supplements that we were using. We've achieved partial success with her Liver Enzymes (ALT/AST) going to such great levels...we just waiting for the other positive effects, too!Take care and God Bless You! I also spoke with the doctor who isgoing to run the study out of s Hopkins. She said that LDN useprior to the trail would not prevent her from getting in the trial, but she thought that it could not be used while she was on the trial(which I understood). Also, since she is a very conservative doctor, she could not recommend LDN because she had no knowledge of it's usein children. To date, the drug trial has not yet started, so Ihaven't spoken to s Hopkins since June 2007. I can't wait to talkto the doctor and tell her that my dear daughter doesn't qualifyanymore for participating in the trial because of her rapidlyimproving condition!**8/10/07 - ALT/AST 26/38- HBV DNA (PCR) - not takenNote: The doctor's can't believe the results and order more tests. Her liver enzymes have returned to the normal range - these are thelowest ALT/AST results we have seen since her diagnosis in 2002.8/17/07 - ALT/AST 29/39- HBV DNA, BLD, QL, PCR - 53,300* (Ref Range <100)- Virus DNA, SER, QN - 133,225* (Ref Range <160)(over 1000% decrease in viral load since Feb 2007.)Note: I called my daughter's Pediatric Gastroenterologist when wefirst got her lab results in mid-August 07. I said to thedoctor "Isn't this good news"...He responded back..."No...this isGREAT news!". We discussed that LDN appears to be having similarresponses to other anti-viral drugs. He said that he had a teenageron Entecavir and this patient also saw dramatic results within thefirst month (similar to my daughter's 1000% viral load decrease). However, the advantage to LDN is that since this isn't an anti-viralHep B drug, but rather her own immune system fighting the virus viathe LDN, we don't have to worry about the anti-viral resistance thatcan be a problem with other anti-viral drugs. Also, if at anypoint the LDN does not appear to be working in the future, we alwayshave the option of starting anti-viral drugs (without the worry ofher already building up anti-viral drug resistance). The gastrodoctor was not the prescribing doctor of the LDN, but he said to keepon doing what we are doing because it appears to be successfullyworking! The Advanced Practice Pediatric Nurse who prescribed the LDN isecstatic with the results. Since LDN has had such good results withAIDS and other immune illnesses, she thought that maybe LDN wouldhelp prime her immune system (that way we could get better results onthe impending Entecavir drug trial). Her words were, there'svirtually no risk (we didn't experience any of the sleep changes thata minority of people have), it's been so helpful for other illnesses, and it's so cheap (less than a $1 / day), then why not try it? Sheknows I now research everything relating to my daughter's medicalconditions, so she left the decision to me...and I'm so glad we tookan alternative approach with LDN.9/21/07 - ALT/AST 25/36- HBV DNA, BLD, QL, PCR - 29,000* (Ref Range <100)- Virus DNA, SER, QN - 69,307* (Ref Range <160)- HBeAG - Positive (Reactive)- HBsAG - Positive (Reactive)- HBeAB (Antibody) -Non Reactive- HBsAB - NegativeFall 2007 - *Note: As stated above (In the Summer 2005 notation, westarted using supplements beginning in 2005 to help with my daughter's severe eczema and terrible food allergies. During the Fall of 2007, her eczema has improved so dramatically, along with progressions in her food allergies. Therefore, we stopped some of her additional supplements.11/15/07 - - ALT/AST 22/31- HBV DNA, BLD, QL, PCR - 170,000* (Ref Range <100)- Virus DNA, SER, QN - 462,842* (Ref Range <160)- HBeAG - Positive (Reactive)- HBsAG - Positive (Reactive)- HBeAB (Antibody) -Non Reactive- HBsAB - NegativeWhile her ALT/AST numbers continued to drop from her last blooddraw (from ALT/AST 25/36 on 9/21/07 to 22/31 on 11/15/07), her viralload did increase from 29,000 to 170,000. I believe this maypossibly be due to wo factors,-- First, I spoke with Skip (of Skip's Pharmacy). He recommended increasing her dosage of LDN. We have started gradually increasing her dose - it was previously at 1 mg and have started 2 mg and will move to 3 mg in the near future.-- Second, over the past couple of months, we did make a changein her supplement routine, which I didn't realize at the time mayhave probably lead to the slight increase of her viral load. My duaghter's eczema had improved so dramatically, that we stopped a couple of months ago many of the supplements we were using (that werespecifically targeted for her eczema). I didn't realize when westopped them, they were not only benefitting her ezcema, but also her liver. These supplements included probiotics, essential fattyacids (Omega 3/6/9 via Hemp Oil or Fish Oil), liquid vitamins andminerals, and a number of antioxidants (L-Glutamine & N-AcetylCysteine (both precursors to Glutathione), Selenium, B-12, AlphaLipoic Acid, Glutathione, and also various rotations of Milk Thistle,Schizandra, Licorice Root, Astragulus during a portion of thetime). Therefore, I have re-started her on the supplements a coupleof days ago. There's a few clinical trials that I found below that support these supplements. I've sent the lab results to the Pediatric Gastro doctor over two weeks ago, but I have not yet heard back from him. However, I did talk to the pediatric advanced nurse practitioner that helped me so much for my daughter's eczema (and was the one who suggested LDN this summer). She believes that stopping the supplements may have led to the slight viral load increase, but it's hard to say. Glutathione and Alpha Lipoic Acid are very important to healing the liver. Also, she concurs with increasing the dosage of the LDN. The max we will go to is 3 mg a day. But we are still excited that her liver enzymes continue to improve! That's progress! We've still seen dramatic results compared to where she was this summer!http://www.hon.ch/Library/Theme/HepB/comp.htmlAntioxidants and Liver SupplementsTreatment Options - Treatment Informationhttp://www.ei-resource.org/treatment-options/treatment-information/antioxidants-and-liver-supplements/National LIbrary of Medicine (PUBMED) Articles: by NIH:A conservative triple antioxidant approach to the treatment ofhepatitis C. Hi mother of Joyce I just did a cut and copy on your text over here, so to write some comments: You give us a lot of information, and it's neccessary to understand what this is about. I found that the ALAT AND ASAT now is at a normal level for a healthy kid, and it's amazing to read the good work LDN has done to her. This is something to read for the new people in here that have been asking about LDN and Hepatitis C or B. Some of the new questions in here has been: what to do, start with LDN or start with anti-viral treatment. Read the story written by Joices mother, this story is fantastic, and should give you inspiration to chose the best medication. Cause it works so fast, you would know in shorter time than a year if to continue. I know that this liver virus that you are trying to fight is REALLY a bad one, my dear brother had both hepatitis C and B, he got those because he has been a heroin addict. The first year as recovered his doctor told him that his viral load was below detectable level, he had only used Milk thistle, during the last 5 years, and had really a unhealthy life going on. He never has got any treatments, but I know that the hepatitis C in Europe is of another genotype, and that this leads to shorter interferon treatments for those who need it. My brother was lucky though, both his vira burned out themselves, this happenes to 1 or 2 of 10. I wish your little girl the best of health, getting the LDN for her was the best that could happen!!! Guest guest
Hello Ingrid, Thanks for note. We have been so pleased with my daughter's response. We had been praying for a miracle and believe the miracle came in the form of LDN to us. There are not many approved drug choices available to children with Hepatitis B. That's why we were so pleased with the results of LDN because now she doesn't have to use 'conventional' drug treatments (i.e. Interferon or other anti-viral medicines such as Entecavir). Now...that's a miracle! I didn't see any postings of how others (children with viral illnesses such as Hepatitis had used LDN on this group. One reason I wrote all the details of our case was so others would see our success and feel free to also talk to their doctors about using LDN for Hepatitis. It's hard to argue with the facts when you have a case study in front of you with the proven lab results! Once I investigated LDN, I thought...what do we have to loose and we have so much to gain....and I wanted others to also gain from our experience. God has been merciful to us and we wanted to also extend mercy (and hope) to others in this journey of healing! Peace & Joy to you! Guest guest
JoyceMom, you have really done a respectful job in here. I have a suggestion: why not start an own group to use to support other people? In the start there will maybe be not too much visitors, but as the years goes by this will be a big group. The World Health Organization proclame that hepatitis C, B and other groups of hepatitis will be the biggest disease group in the world and the most challenging task. You have already done a great job by writing your little daughters story so all of us could read about it, I am sure many of us have saved it, as I did the first time you wrote in here. I am sure your daughter is proud of having such a good mammy :-)Ingrid [low dose naltrexone] Re: Hepatitis B - LDN & Complimentary Supplements-Our Success #2Hello Ingrid, Thanks for note.
