Guest guest
Hi , I didn't know that s*x was taboo, I thought we could talk about anything we wanted in relation to our illness. But JIC, I'll whisper LOL. After my transplant my doctor said to be very careful of all kinds of germs because of the immunosuppressants, I was taking both pred. and neoral. I don't mean to insult any of the guys in the group. Regarding s*x, he said " Be careful because you don't know where 'its' been. " Makes me laugh every time I think about it. It's probably a good idea to check with your own doctor, I'm sure he won't tell you to stop living. He can advise you about any precautions you might need to take. Guest guest
Hi , That's too bad sex has been so difficult and painful for you! That's just not fair. Other methods? If you reacted badly to condoms, I'm not sure if you'll react with this as well. They're called " Vaginal Contraceptive Film " . They have the same effectiveness as foam or other spermicides. Maybe you could use these along with the cycle method, to increase your odds. I haven't tried the films yet. They basically look like a square of saran wrap, which you place inside you. They're effective for an hour, without the mess of foam. Sounds good to me. The best price I've found them for is at Walmart ($8.67). They've been around in the states, but only recently came to Canada. Hopefully!! I have friends who swear by the cycle method, if your periods are regular. Anyways my dear, best of luck here. We're definitely limited since we can't take the pill, or depo provera. (At least I'm pretty sure we can't take depo provera since they're injections). Guest guest
Hello In the first year around the same time I got another rare illness, valva verstibulities. Even though they said it had nothing to do with aih, I believe it did. Any ways to clear up what it was was the gland that produce the lubrication were enlarge (not infected) making it impossible to have sex, use toilet paper and sometimes sit!! (oh along with periods and nightmare) 2 years with this they finally removed them. Since they have told me birth control pills are no no, I should use condoms, I used them and got fan infection??? so since it hurt for two years I was not sexually active, and because I had a bad reaction to the condom? no thanks, so lately my sex life has started again, and I use nothing?? I have been with Jeff for 8 years!! Any ways ?? Any suggestions for pain free birth control for brandy other then no sex!! thanks

Guest guest
Hi , It's wonderful to hear a male perspective on the topic. Personally, I've lost interest in sex over the past year approximately (I'm 23)...since I've contracted AIH likely. I couldn't understand why, but in hindsight I know this is the reason. Decreased energy and slight depression and stress were the main reasons. No libido whatsoever. My boyfriend never pressured, even when we didn't know the reason. You're probably right that this is the case with your wife as well, and not aging. Stinks. I think you're a sweetie for considering your wife's health in regards to sex. I know my boyfriend will feel the same way as you, so it's nice to hear your opinions. Must be tough. Maybe other things in place of intercourse if your wife is feeling better... I guess I'll see what works for my boyfriend and I in the next little while. Take care , and thanks for responding. >From: " Schneider " <pwsch@...> >Reply- onelist >< onelist> >Subject: Re: [ ] Sex >Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 09:29:50 -0400 > >From: " Schneider " <pwsch@...> > >To all >I'm glad the subject of sex and AIH was brought up. Guest guest
WELL WELL WHAT A TOPIC TO WRITE ABOUT, OF COURSE I WEAR A CONDOM, I'M SINGLE, BUT I HAVE NO WORRIES, AS A MATTER OF FACT IT TAKES ALOT OF PRESSURE OFF, TO REACH A HIGH LEVEL PLATAEU. I WAS SCARED AT FIRST THAT THE STERIODS WAS GOING TO CREATE A PROBLEM, FROM WHAT I HEAR OF THE ILLEGAL STERIODS BUT WHOA, THANK GOD IT DIDN'T. EVERYTHING STILL FUNCTIONS GREAT, I KNOW THAT ALOT OF TIMES I'M DEPRESS, BUT SEX REALLY HELPS ME GET BETTER, TO ME IT'S LIKE A PRESCRIPTION FROM THE DOC. Guest guest
To all I'm glad the subject of sex and AIH was brought up. I think for health reasons it is a very appropriate subject. My 66 year old wife has lost interest in it about the same time that she probably contacted AIH about 6 years ago. Could the AIH have been the reason? Or just the aging process in some people? If we ever did have it again, it would be out of her " politeness " , but not the circumstances I would want to do it in. We are also concerned now that she is on both Imuran and prednisone that she could get infections more easily through the natural tears or irritations that accompany the act. I walk the straight and narrow, so I would not be a danger to her except through natural existance of germs. I would not want to do anything that would be a threat to her life. Guest guest
, I was diagnosed with HPV (Human Papaloma Virus) last year. They found out I had this by a pap smear that came back with bad cells. This is a STD and very common. Many people carry the virus around for years without any side effects or flare-ups. The bad cells were removed from my cervix and now I have no outward signs of having the virus. However, people on immunosuppressants are more subject to flare-ups of this virus and catching it. It is caught through genital skin to skin contact. However, my doc thinks 50mgs of Imuran is such a low dose that it doesn't really put me at a statistically greater risk to catch anything. Just some more info, Roxanne
Guest guest
, I think it's very kind of you to approach your wife's loss of sexual desire with such sensitivity. I don't know if this liver disease or treatment actually causes the loss of libido. But prednisone mimics a hormone and any time you mess with a woman's hormones, it can effect all kinds of things. For me, fatigue is a major factor in my desire and we all know how directly this disease is correlated with fatigue. In terms of causing her an increased risk of catching something else because of the Imuran. I would not be to concerned about this, as you said you are STD free, and 50mgs of Imuran, according to my doc, does not statistically increase your susceptibility to other diseases. All the best, Roxanne

Guest guest
I can see where taking a warm bath and popping a pain pill after a nap might help with the preparing or scheduling of sex. How a pain pill hinders a male I couldn't say. But the warm bath even together couldn't hurt. I plan to nap prior to an event just to make sure I can make it but it might not always work out that way. The night before Gandma's funeral I ended up pacing the room and finally went to the Emergency room. Seems I had gottten bad side effects from the Celebrex along with feeling sick. I thought it might be my first aniexty attack or something from stressing over the occassion. Thank you God for the doc that gave me that very nice steroid shot. It got me thru a 5 1/2 hour car trip plus the occassion. No calling that one off. Hmmm, can the non-arthritic one give a " massage " (parlors come to mind)(figure that out Gill). Room temperature helps doesn't it? A cold room means stiffening of the wrong sort. hehe What else helps? Aromatherapy? Plan old vanilla (not vinegar). Forget the chores of the household and just enjoying each other? Get a parrot to make suggestions? Old joke. What else? Any decent suggestions out there? Take care, Pat B
Guest guest
Hi My advise, try it dear! Get husband or partner to spend a few hours attending to your aches, pains and psoriasis. Married life can be boring, so spice it up. The best way to achieve this, start off by touching each other the first night, nothing more. Come the second night go for stroking, nothing more. Next rubbing in oils, nothing more. If you make the fourth night without sex, you have a problem! Not too sure if by then it becomes lust, but boy you will be ready to eat each other! Yes I have a full back massage every week without fail! Before they invented medication, the Romans and Egyptians believe in Aromatherapy and Massage as the only beneficial treatment for arthritis. I have my massage as a 'passive' form of exercise, insofar as it keeps the back muscles oxygenated. I also benefit from being relaxed and in a place where I have no contact with the outside world, time to think! Now if you decided to try the above, and nine months later a parcel arrives, do not BLAME me! And before you ask, NO you cannot have Henry! Love and God Bless Gillian Re: [ ] SEX >From: PBias@...
