Some people have adverse response to DLPA. But, tolerate the "d" form of phenylalanine..

Be careful when self treating with amino acids, please. Although they are not contraindicated with LDN, they are powerful substances.

Read The Mood Cure, Ross and The Edge Effect, Braverman, for some good information.

Hi ,Dr. Bihari recommended DL-Phenylalanine as a helpful adjunct to LDN. It is a combination of the two naturally occuring amino acids, D- and L-Phenylalanine. Its use with LDN is discussed in more detail here:See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter.

Gisele,

Isn't that a seizure medication?

Have you looked into Taurine?

Hi Gisele,

For what condition are you taking LDN?

Klonopin does not appear on the list of drugs to avoid when taking LDN at

I successfully weaned off a narcotic so to begin LDN...but didn't

experience much improvement. My doctor then requested I wean off of

the Klonopin I've been on for years. I am miserable! I am taking 1

less pill a week...and am down to 4 a week- but think this may be too

aggressive given the crying spells, shakiness, depression symptoms

etc. Any advice? I of course will be talking with my doctor

today...but thought it'd be helpful to hear how others have weaned off

this med.

Thanks- Gisele

Hi Gisele -

I had to wean off Halcion (a hypnotic but also a benzo as Klonopin is)

a little over a year ago. It can be a challenging experience but must

be done very slowly and with a professional helping you. There is a

website I found helpful which goes through what to expect when

weaning, how much to wean, etc. Don't let the extreme cases scare you,

people successfully go off these drugs all the time. I referred to the

site often: www.benzo.org.uk

It might be helpful if your doctor could run neurotransmitter tests

and maybe integrate some amino acids to help balance things out while

you are weaning off and help take the edge off a bit. If not, it can

still be done. There is an end in sight to the bumpy journey you may

experience. I am glad I am off my med so the LDN can work on its own.

I think Dr. Bihari recommended certain aminos as well but I don't know

much about it. The more experienced LDN users know more about this

than me.

Hi MJH -

I'm under the care of 2 docs who suggested the L-theanine to me, in

the larger doses as well. I can't do any phenylalanine - it puts me

into a rage.

The L-theanine is one of the safest aminos to take from what I am

told. There can be problems self-medicating with some of them though.

There seems to be an opinion out there that says if you're low in

serotonin you're also low in GABA. This is not so - my serotonin was

tanked and my GABA very high. This seems to be a common combo in some

who run high with anxiety. This is where I sought out assistance when

I weaned off the sleep med.

I've only read Braverman, thanks for the other suggestions!

Did not realize Klonopin was a benzodiazepine.

If it is, wouldn't niacinamide help to wean off it?

My theory being that if niacinamide works on the same receptor sites

as the benzos, wouldn't that help get someone off?

Also, I think Taurine is a calming neurotransmiter. I am sure I have

heard of it's use in epilepsy.

So, would that help the weaning process, too?

I will try to look into these further.
