Guest guest
Does anyone have any good advice on how to deal with aggression? My 14 yo son with PDD/NOS has been getting these bouts of severe aggression where he just wants to fight with me. He's been getting pretty physical with me lately and these spells come on out of the blue all of a sudden. It's been happening just about every night now for the last month or so. He doesn't do this at school or with anyone else, mainly just me, his mother. He can be in the sweetest mood and be happy and then there's a sudden change and all of a sudden he just starts provoking to fight. (Believe me, I've tried to distract, just walk away, ignore...etc. Nothing works!!) I'm getting to the end of my rope and have no idea what to do... If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be truly grateful!! He was on diflucan but stopped that about 2 weeks ago after we went through the dosage and am waiting test results to see if he still has yeast. (He was on that for about 6 weeks.) He's also on Depakote since August to treat seizures which started last December. His supplements are: Magnesium, P5P, Taurine, Zinc, Calcium (just started today), probiotic, Cod Liver Oil, Tryptophan at night. I was planning on starting chelation in a few weeks, but I've heard they can become more aggressive with that. Does anyone have any advice??? Thanks in advance!!! Guest guest
Hi Carla I had aggression with my son who is now 14. It started a couple of years ago, and we were at out wits end . We eventually put him on Zoloft. However I always felt that the aggression was more prevalent when the yeast was acting up. If I were you, I would aggressively treat him for yeast again, and you may have to continue that for some time. Our experience is that once you stop with the anti fungals the yeast can return very quickly in 1 or 2 weeks. It would also help if you had someone else take him and hold him down when he was having a tantrum or being aggressive. For some reason they attack us even more ferociously. When my son was at his worst, I walked around with blue black marks all over me. Hope this helps. Nalini Re: [ ] Agression question- Help! I was very strict with his diet and brought him his lunch every day at school so the school couldn't undermine the diet. One of his tests showed that meat protein could be causing or increasing the seizures and at that point he was basically down to organic meats, vegetables, potatoes. The doctor said to eliminate meats and that put him down to practically nothing to eat so I took him off the diet to see if I noticed any difference. There was none at all. Guest guest
My son is 15. I could have written almost the same post. What helped us was B6. He takes 850mg a day in two doses, breakfast and lunch. We worked up to that amount. It was made a big difference. He weight about 100-110 lbs. Some kids do better with B6 than P5P. I've found when my son isn't feeling well his aggression is worse. We stopped chelating to get the GI issues under control. > > > <p>Does anyone have any good advice on how to deal with aggression?<br> > <br> > My 14 yo son with PDD/NOS has been getting these bouts of severe aggression <br> > where he just wants to fight with me. Guest guest
> > Does anyone have any good advice on how to deal with aggression? Depends on why he is aggressive. Common causes are milk, soy, corn, or phenol intolerance http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm My #2 was very aggressive when I tried giving him EFAs without mito cocktail and amino acids http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm Yeast and/or bacteria overgrowth can also cause aggression. > He was on diflucan but stopped that about 2 weeks ago after we went through > the dosage and am waiting test results to see if he still has yeast. (He was > on that for about 6 weeks.) This is a likely cause. Here are additional yeast ideas http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm > His supplements are: Magnesium, P5P, Taurine, Zinc, Calcium (just started > today), probiotic, Cod Liver Oil, Tryptophan at night. Calcium can cause aggression, if he is calcium toxic. Are any of the others new? The CLO would have caused aggression for my son. > I was planning on starting chelation in a few weeks, but I've heard they can > become more aggressive with that. Does anyone have any advice??? Be sure you have a good yeast protocol in place. Dana
Guest guest
> Dana, > Thank you so much for your post!! You gave great ideas how to combat this. > I guess it's just trial and error to see if any of these things help? Yes > Can you tell me how you know if your child has viral or bacteria issues? I knew my kids were viral, because one winter I gave OLE to prevent colds/flu, and when I removed it there was a major regression. I did not even see the improvement, only the nasty regression when I removed it. For bacteria, I usually know this because of mean/nasty behavior, but sometimes liquid bms. > Are there direct signs that would indicate it's one or the other or do you have > to do the testing? I have never had my kids tested. Dana
