Guest guest
My son's elemental hair test results came back and his lithium was totally low - didn't even register a number - our Dr. has recommended supplementing with lithium orotate. Anyone doing this? Does that sound right? anything I should be looking out for?? thanks!

Guest guest
Ok - now I do know what the counting rules are (I checked the files section) but my test was done at Great Smokies - am I to understand that the counting rules don't apply here then? > > I don't know what the counting rules are > > > > > Does he meet the counting rules? Guest guest
If it's a GSDL " Elemental Analysis " , the counting rules can be applied with some modifications. The rules are not as sensitive in identifying deranged mineral transport as with other labs, but they can be used. As to your lithium question, undetectable lithium on a hair test does suggest a need for supplementation. Lithium orotate is considered to be safe. It's not the same thing as the rx drug lithium carbonate. -- > > > > I don't know what the counting rules are > > > > > > > > > Does he meet the counting rules? Guest guest
My daughter is on lithium orotate through our DAN, she takes 15mg/day, she's almost 8, 50 lbs. We haven't done a hair test, but she has pretty intense mood swings and many asd kids are low in lithium, so we are supplementing with it. I'm not sure whether it's helping, but no negatives from it either. Just in case you didn't know - lithium orotate is a natural supplement, as opposed to the drug lithium carbonate (I think it's called??) which is taken at much higher doses and requires very careful monitoring (blood tests, etc...). > > My son's elemental hair test results came back and his lithium was > totally low - didn't even register a number - our Dr. has recommended > supplementing with lithium orotate. Guest guest
That sounds right. My daughters hair test had almost no detectable lithium..which matched her behavior. Very moody almost bipolar. She just turned 11. We use the natural one also. It does seem to help. No side effects noted either. Her moods have evened out for the most part. She is more positive as well. Low lithium levels often are the result of mercury exposure. It interfers with the brain using lithium. > > > > My son's elemental hair test results came back and his lithium was > > totally low - didn't even register a number - our Dr. has recommended > > supplementing with lithium orotate. Guest guest
My test was done at GS too and I don't think they do. As far as I have read they only work on the DDI test. But you can look for things like Sodium/Potassium ratios. Are they abnormal. Low lithium levels, high toxic other metals. Symptoms of mercury. If someone out there has one of Andy's books they can interpret the hair test. I posted mine here a while back and someone was kind enought to do that for me. Just make sure to include everything. The colors, whether or not the hash mark is to the right or left of the middle etc. > > > > I don't know what the counting rules are > > > > > > > > > Does he meet the counting rules? Guest guest
Hi all, Don't u think addressing mercury by chelation will take care of lithium? My son's hair test too showed almost no lithium, which I think is true for all our kids. I have not supplemented him with lithium. But after 9 rounds of oral chelation with DMSA and ALA, his mood swings are almost gone. This is only guess work, as I have not yet tested his lithium levels again, Sathya Jan <paxlforme@...> wrote: That sounds right. Guest guest
Hi I had very low lithium and had another hair test at round 13, it had risen into the yellow from the red. As you say I started feeling better between rd5-10. Guest guest
Yes, our daughter has been on Lithobid, which is a different formulation of Lithium, for 15 months now. It took some time, and her blood levels had to be checked for the "therapeutic level" twice, but since May, has been the most balanced ever. She is currently on 300mg AM and 600mg PM, which is maintaining the balance. She is also on geodon, adderal xr and zoloft. Jillian
Guest guest
Our son was on Lithium for a year when he was 13yo. It did help his behavior but he ended up with an underactive thyroid and now takes synthetic thyroid. We have been told that this was probably a side effect of lithium and may be temporary or permanent. He is 16 now and has to have two increase in this thyroid meds, so after 2 years they are beginning to think that he has a permanent problem. Since he is adopted and his birthmother was adopted, we have little or no medical history to determine is this is in the family or if it is indeed a side effect of the lithium.
