OK I HAVE A QUESTION to all you "LOSERS" out there, it just hit me.

Are you SMOKERS??? <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

This is my weight(s) since Day 1:

Started 4/17/03 at 135 lbs

11/03 124 lbs, down 11

11/04 127 lbs, stable

07/05 114 lbs, another drop, down 21 from start, following 2 weeks camping in high heat

03/06 110 lbs, following split from my family, eating 'healthier', down 25 from start

04/26/06 108 lbs, the day I QUIT SMOKING CIGARETTES, down 27

05/06 129 lbs, 2 weeks of no cigarettes, down only 6 from start, up 21 lbs in TWO weeks

09/06 133 lbs, down only 2 lbs from start

09/07 132 lbs

Today 131 lbs, Stablized at this level.

If you ALL are cigarette smokers and are losing weight, then it's not the LDN, but the nicotine, that LDN is helping "DO" what "it" does, suppresses appetite.

I had to change my diet again when my friend said since I quit smoking I was eating a LOT more than I did before.

Nowadays I do get hungry but can still go without for a while, if I'm busy online, time just flies.

So the question is, if you're Losing on LDN, are you a cig smoker

and if you're one of the ones who claim to be gaining, are you NOT a cig smoker, and just are Enjoying your Meals????

[low dose naltrexone] Re: APPETITE ON LDN

I have had a similar side effect. I started out at 115 and in 4 months, I am down to 106. I was talking to my husband about the potential of it being the LDN. I still eat my normal meals, which have always been healthy, but I don't have the urge to "stress" eat. When I was younger, I had an eating disorder(anorexia and bulimia) and wondered IF LDN is suppose to help heroine addicts get over their addiction, could LDN have a similar effect on eating disorders.

With the holidays, I'm not complaining about the weight loss yet. Also, if anyone is thinking it could be other health issues, I have been completely check out by my PCP with blood work etc.

Have a great weekend everyone.

AND?

are you a Gainer

or a Loser?

Was a question for those who either are losing a lot of weight, or gaining.

I don't care who smokes or doesn't, unless they're gaining or losing.

I haven’t lost weight - yet. I’ve been on LDN for about 10 days or so and notice that my appetite is significantly reduced and that I can’t finish my usual sized meals. If this keeps up, I’ll be a loser for sure!

Hi Larry!

I'm gaining, but not rapidly. I am a former smoker (quit 7 years

ago.) I think the reason I'm gaining has nothing to do with the LDN

or not smoking, however. I think my gain is probably more because

I'm just not as energetic as I was before MS and so I'm not as active

as I used to be and I haven't adjusted my caloric intake to match the

decrease in activity. In other words, I've got no one to blame but

myself! :D

Never a smoker and when I started LDN I lost a significant amount of weight. I have been on LDN for 4 1/2 years now and have leveled off but never did get back to the weight that i was before LDN. Although I am never hungry and don't eat nearly as much as I used to. That is a good thing.

I just started LDN, but I did a lot of reading before starting. I

came across an article that suggests naltrexone could be used in a

weight loss drug (when combined with bupropion). The drug is

currently in phase three testing and is not FDA approved yet.

What I found interesting is Figure 3 showing weight loss for various

groups including naltrexone and placebo.

need to lose weight.

Here’s a thought. Could it be that those of us who are not eating as much now that we are on LDN were eating certain foods (like chocolate) for the endorphin effect? And now that we have more endorphins circulating in our systems because of the LDN, the urge to eat this stuff is simply diminished? I was eating lots of chocolate and sweets before, and while I still eat some, the amount is greatly reduced and the desire is barely there.

I think you are on the right path there Judy. DLPA is advised for a number of people on LDN because it makes the endorphins last longer throughout the day. If you can't get DLPA, then Dr. Bihari would recommend eating chocolate for the same effect.

Numerous doctors, especially holistic ones, will tell you to avoid those foods. Of course they’re right. It’s better to get rid of that stuff, but the question is how do you want to live? I was on highly restrictive, special diets for years after I began to pursue a more holistic way of dealing with my inflammation. I know for many people, that works, and I did feel better physically when I cut out all the fun stuff – but I really hated living that way. At a certain point, after years of total avoidance, I began bingeing on the “forbidden” foods and realized that if I didn’t change something, I was on my way to developing an eating disorder. I literally dreamed of chocolate chip cookies at night. It took me 6 weeks of allowing myself to indulge in the “forbidden” foods as much as I wanted before I lost my compulsion to eat them obsessively and was able to adopt a moderate, sensible way of eating. I instinctively knew that giving myself permission was the only way I was going to nip this in the bud, and I was right. Once I truly “got it” that if I really wanted something I could have it, I was able to relax and not feel compelled to eat it as if it was the last time I was ever going to have it again in my life.

For me, the freedom to eat what I want is very important. Psychologically, I feel very deprived and left out if I’m not allowed to indulge in things when others are. That’s me and my issue. I’m willing to endure a certain amount of discomfort in order to accomplish this, though of course I’d be happier if the pain was gone. And I do avoid certain foods if they might kill me, such as anything that might cause a severe allergic reaction, for example. But I indulge in sweets in moderation, eat gluten-containing foods, put soy milk in my tea - and I try to eat healthy most of the time.

Of course everyone is different, and what works for one won’t necessarily work for another. I’d be the last one to talk someone out of a restrictive diet if that’s what works for them and they’re ok with it. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I would imagine there are probably others on this list who might feel as I do about the diets.

Hi Dudley,

I know all of that. I try to stay away from sugar for the most part. Sugar has a very negative effect on me. I can eat a little of it once in a while but if I have it on a daily basis then it bothers me a lot. So I just try to have one cookie per day to satisfy myself. And I can stay away from it cause it really will make me sick. As far as the ice cream, I never keep it in my house cause it would not last. In the summer, my husband takes me out for it. I would go every night but we try to limit it to one to two times per week. In the winter I never get it. I have to have something to satisfy me so I eat pop corn. That does satisfy me.
