When I was a kid, my parents used Hydrogen Peroxide ..

Use a clean Q-tip and dab it on .. It will bubble and sting !

Keep it dry .. Dab on Hydrogen Peroxide every few hours .

It should start to crust over and then go away after a couple days.

I hated when they did it, but it worked every time.

Subject: [ ] Impetigo - Any natural ways to treat?

Hi -

I have a kid with impetigo. It is spreading and I was trying to avoid

an antibiotic, for obvious reasons. We will have to do Cefcil, which

I really do not want to do. Any ideas for effective natural

treatments. THeir cousins are coming to visit tomorrow.

Please do not let this infection go. I had a terrible time getting Kaiser to

Rx the correct antibiotic and landed in the ER where I got IV's of Augmentin

(a 'cillin with clavulanic acid to overcome antibiotic resistance.)

Systemic infection of staph can be complicated with strep. This is really

destructive of the body, particularly where the immune system is already

compromised, as it is in us and our children.

Hope you find a way to treat that works, fast.

I am not personally familiar with impetigo, but a natural antibiotic

treatment I have used with good success is poultice made from teabags.

Chamomile tea is a fairly strong natural antibiotic, but I have also had

success with mint teas and " whatever I had on hand " on various occasions. A

description of how to do a poultice can be found here:

I had this almost 24/7 as a child. In those days [longer ago than I

care to state LOL], the recommended medical treatment was cortisone

cream applied to the skin, and then tape plastic wrap over it.

However, I have learned that my impetigo was basically severe eczema.

And eczema is commonly caused by food intolerances.

This page has a lot of good info on eczema, if your child's impetigo

is also severe eczema

Our kids plus myself caught impetigo last summer, one by one! It was

NASTY - but once we figured out how well the over-the-counter topical

antibiotic cream worked, we got rid of it pretty quickly. The hydrogen

peroxide treatment sounds good too.
