Guest guest
This is our 5th round and he has complained as soon as I apply it that it burns. He tells me it burns in the area that gets red when you first apply it. He is 7yo (60lbs) on 100mg TD DMSA .5ml every 3 hours. This is Hopewell brand and they said that had not heard of that happening before and to send it back and they will send me more. It doesn't have that " eggy " smell as strong as some of the previous rounds. Its kinda has a little bit of a plastic smell. My other son's DMSA is not even getting his stomach red when I apply it. Anybody had this problem and what should I do? Could it just be that he body is reacting in a good way and reacting with the metals? Thanks. P.S. Does everyone use TD DMSA in the beginning? Guest guest
This isn't an answer to your question (sorry) but this is one of the reasons that some people choose not to use the TD forms. If you encounter problems with the next batch of TD-DMSA you may want to consider using the oral. Apparently some DAN docs have now come out to say that they believe TD doesn't pull as well as the oral form in most cases. Guest guest
If you are set on using TD, try another pharmacy. Lee Silsby? Each will probably have slightly different ingredients. I know Lee Silsby claims their activating cream (you get a syringe of DMSA and a bottle of cream to mix together at the time of application) is 'better' and less irritating than some other pharmacy's blends. Marketing hype or not, it might be worth a try. I've also heard the disappointing news from some DAN! docs; that TD- DMSA isn't giving the results they were hoping for. I've also heard much better things about TD-ALA. Docs will usually recommend what appears easiest for the parent. I think that is part of the reason why TD-DMSA took off like it did. Not having to wake up the child at night for dosing is a great plus! That, and the whole gut issue. Good luck! If this were my child, I wouldn't do another round of Hopewell. That is just me. Guest guest
Thanks to you both for responding. I've continued with the round eventhough he says it still hurts. I hate missing a round. He says if I go slow it doesn't hurt that much. I use these purple nitrile gloves when applying it because the first two applications of round one caused my tooth and my husband's jaw to hurt. I'm wondering if the DMSA and the nitrile are reacting with one another, but this is the 4th round I have used these gloves. The doctor is the one who put them on the this cream. She didn't ask me which one I preferred. I just realized recently that some were using oral meds. Does the oral form taste bad? I have to open all my capsules up and mix with something to get them to take it. Thanks again. > > > > This is our 5th round and he has complained as soon as I apply it > that > > it burns. Guest guest
That's interesting: if you 'go slow' it doesn't burn as much. I wonder why? I use TD-DMSA from Lee Silsby (1 year). I don't know if I mentioned that in my other post. I've been pretty happy with the results, but VERY happy when I added oral ALA. I don't know how the oral DMSA tastes. If I'm not mistaken, you can get capsules from Kirkman's (with prescription) that are flavored. Again, I'm not sure about that one. I know many open/dump DMSA capsules... so it can't be that bad, can it? I'm considering a switch to oral DMSA. The stink of DMSA turns me off, plus I'm concerned that the last 2 urine tests showed virtually no metals; especially mercury. BUT, I am seeing cognitive, social and language improvements. I know DMSA works, but I want to be sure I'm using a method that works. I'm sure others will let us know if oral DMSA is nasty. It might help me make my decision, too. Anyone know if DMSA comes in tablets that I can chop up? That is what I do with the oral ALA since ALA capsules have shard-like contents that irritate the throat something bad. Take care, Pam > > > > > > This is our 5th round and he has complained as soon as I apply > it > > that > > > it burns. He tells me it burns in the area that gets red when > you > > > first apply it. Guest guest
What other ingredients are in the TD form you are using? Some react to the fillers. If you and your husband have mercury amalgam dental fillings that would explain why it makes your tooth and his jaw hurt. Somewhere in the archives there's a post explaining a variety of ways to teach kids/people to take capsules. S S <p>Thanks to you both for responding. Guest guest
By the look on my sons' face, oral dmsa tastes bad. It smells bad too ,so mix it with something very flavorful, or cold to bland the taste. And make sure they don't have to drink or eat to much to get the dose. Use a small amount so they can just gulp it down quickly. My kids have gotten used to it and really don't balk much. > > > I don't know how the oral DMSA tastes. > > The caspules from vrp smell bad and we swallow them quickly. P-U!
