Guest guest
Jen, It might be yeast. ALA causes yeast and yeast in the mouth makes it very difficult to tolerate anything acidic or sour or hot. It can also cause the mouth and gums, tongue and throat to become flaming red. This was how my daughter was for years before starting any biomed. After doing Nystatin she was fine. Something to consider. -------------- Original message -------------- From: " jennifer_thorson " <jennifer_thorson@...> My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. A few days ago she complained of cracked lips and soar tongue. Last night she hardly ate and did not want her supplements. She screamed when she had them and would not let me brush her teeth. Her tongue looks a little red and bumpy and the sides of her lips are cracked. Otherwise I do not see anything. She also complained of a soar butt. We are supossed to start ALA again tomorrow, but I wanted any info you had as to what this is. Thanks, Jen

Guest guest
Yeast. Are you giving it every three hours around the clock? Also, this stuff is tough on the throat if you give the powder, so make sure it's in capsules. Barb [ ] mouth hurting after ALA My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
She cannot swallow capsules yet so I gave it every 3 hours in juice. She did not complain while we were doing ALA but over a week later. She has been drinking a lot more juice and less water and milk to get all the supplements in. Now that her mouth hurts she is drinking even less at school. I have pushed water at night though. I have cut down on how much juice I put with the supplements. She screams when she drinks the supplements with juice but does not when she only drinks water. We went to the dentist and she said there were no sores in her mouth and it looked normal. I may start doing training on capsules. Are there multi-vit for autism that are in pill form? > > Yeast. Are you giving it every three hours around the clock? Guest guest
, when I took ALA alone (I'd run out of DMSA and it's so expensive that it took a while to order more) I developed mouth sores almost immediately which were painful all the time. A friend of mine said that she used the DMSA with the ALA for this very reason - it minimizes the side effects. It also helps to speed up chelation about 30% (I read somewhere). I never have the problem with the DMSA added to the ALA, unless I use too high of a dosage. I use 50mgs of each per round currently. Guest guest
Two thing..what is her vitamin A dose? Secondly..ALA is very irritating to the mouth. My son had this problem when we were mixing it into juice and he was drinking it. We switched to putting it into a tiny bit of food to gulp down. A treat or nutter ball or something she likes. But we also follow it with a lot of cold water and switched to using Kirkman ALA which seemed to solve the problem. There is no yeast problem right? Sore bump is usually yeast overgrowth. You have to be on continual yeast treatment with chelation. My son had these same problems at the beginning. We use GSE for yeast, probiotics, and the water with better brand ALA. You may need to forgo the supplements for a day or two until her mouth settles down. My son would not take anything either for a day or two after the ALA was done. Once his mouth got better and we got the yeast down he went back to eating and taking his supps. > > My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. For my family, GSE was the most effective anti-fungal. Adding Candidase enzyme made it even more effective. But, it does not work this well for others. You might try something different, see if it works better for you. Dana
Guest guest
She was getting 20,000 IU extra of Vit. A but I have cut it down to 5000 extra to see if the mouth sensativity, sucking on her lip or deep breathing was caused by mineral toxicity. I also cut down Vit E, magnesium, and calcium. I have continued with milk thistle, molybdenum and DHA at the same dose. At first she did less lip sucking and deep breathing but now it seems to come and go with no pattern. I will probably stay at the same dose until after this weekend and then maybe start over. She ate more yesterday and took her ALA with no complaint. She still does not want to brush but she does a little bit. The ALA is Puritan's Pride. I will try putting it in some food to see if that helps. Regarding yeast, I don't know that she had or has a problem but I am using GSE and Threelac probiotic. She has been more hyper lately and had a bad case of trush when she was a baby. Guest guest
Yes, but I think Andy has said that for mixing doses ahead the chelators are more stable if mixed with acidic juice. Guest guest
Because the soreness appeared two weeks or so after, it is more likely to be yeast or something. My son had his soreness appear within a day of starting dmsa/ala. He has to eat his too. Are there any white patches inside her mouth. Use a flashlight because they are hard to see. If so, this is yeast. Does her tongue have a white coating on it? This also indicated yeast. If you use pear juice, mix it right when you use it instead of ahead of time because it is not as acidic to preserve the ala. Or give it in a food...a tsp of something tasty. Hyper is yeast with my kids too. Sometimes when you start chelating the current yeast dose needs to be increased a bit. Cracked side of mouth can be too much Vit A. > > > > > > My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. A few > > > days ago she complained of cracked lips and soar tongue. Guest guest
Chelation in general affects the adrenals. It stressed them further. I have seen this first hand in chelation with myself. I often have to increase my adrenal support during and shortly after a round of chelation. > > Can anyone confirm to me that ALA effects the adrenals? Evidently is can > lower blood sugar levels. Guest guest
http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/antioxidant/alpha_lipoic/Alpha_C_25mg_90_Spe\ c064.html the above site is from Kirkman labs and in the first paragraph it states that ALA often has a burning sensation. Do you open the capsules to give ALA? Maybe try the Kirkman brand and see if it helps. Tina > > My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
I am switching to pills this round. But I noticed that if I forgot GSE, her mouth would get red and lips crack. If I upped the GSE, her mouth would get better in a day or two. Jen > > > > My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
Jen, We often see this when yeast flares up using ALA. GSE is very helpful. Also, if she has to eat her ala instead of swallow it, as is the case for my son make sure she drinks a lot of cold water after chewing it. To rinse her mouth of the ala. We did find ala irriated my son's mouth until we did this. We also switched to Kirkman brand and it seems less irriating. But no matter which brand you use, and with the sore bottom..yeast is a problem. My son gets the sore bottom and sore mouth with yeast when on a round. We give a small amount of GSE with each dose of chelator. I grind up the tablets and give a small amount of powder with each dose. It ends up equalling maybe two tablets in 24 hours. But this stopped the sore mouth and bottom for us. Hope she feels better. > > My 5 year old had her first round of ALA almost 2 weeks ago.
