For liver problems which my one son and I have....we take milk thistle,

lecithin, phosphatidyl choline and watching allergens and chemicals..... We

are

GF/cf ls/lph and more...so we just do our best to follow what we can eat

and use the above....but we do not eat out or use processed foods in boxes or

can if we can get along without it....from scratch is safest for us.

I have a question.....am I the only mom here dealing with a phenol issue?

Man I wish I could give my kids these things.... That would be fantastic....

They will take almost anything if I get firm and tell this is what is going

to be done.....but man the reactions that we would have to all these

phenols......argh!!! Even with no-fenol..... Is this unusual....

Oh, that's easy - chocolate coconut candies! This is a type of superfood in

fact with all nourishing ingredients.

2 cups virgin organic high quality coconut oil (Nutiva, Nature's Blessings,

Wilderness Family Naturals, Quality First, etc)

5-6 Tbsp. pure cocoa powder (I prefer Green and Black's)

1-2 Tbsp. raw honey (not for infants under 1 or 2? years of age due to

botulism - this goes for ALL honey)

1 cup shredded coconut

OPTIONAL

1. nuts (almonds, pecans, etc.) that have been soaked overnight (to remove

the digestion-inhibiting compounds all nuts contain)

2. Freeze-dried berry powder (adds a great flavor!)

3. 3-4 Tbsp. virgin RED palm oil

4. I Tbsp. GF real vanilla extract

I usually add the freeze dried berry powder, the palm oil, and just recently

the vanilla. These are absolutely *delicious*! I eat them every day.

I think I would try some bifido factor for her in whatever form she can

Nope, you are most certainly not the only one dealing with a phenol issue.

It is so bad for us that even trying to reintroduce a small amount of tomato

sauce on a gf/cf pizza crust with 2 No-Fenols is impossible. He tolerates

nothing phenolic, include topical lotions, etc. Our ND said to expect this for

the rest of his life...that this particular depth of phenolic issue will

most likely not ever go away. again, Argh!!! -- Helen

Hi Ronni,

Thanks for responding. She is on probiotics and I am thinking of starting the

olive leaf extract--does that cause die off?

Dear Ronni,

My son too seems to be phenol intolerant.

I limit what I see he reacts to and give it with quite a bit of No-Fenol and

even with that, he is hyper active and has mushy poop most of the time. He

loves fruits and eats so little. He is significantly underweight and fruits

that I serve with food helps open his appetite.

I too make everything at home from scratch. Nothing processed, no chemical,

organic or all natural diet and still am having a lot of issues. My son is

GFCF, trace amount of soy or corn with all three of Houston enzymes at every

meal and snack. I have thought about Fiengold diet in addition, but feel I

can't eliminate more or he will waste away.

You are not alone.

My son's phenol issues were ENORMOUS, and ironically, they were the

first of his issues to disappear when I started chelating him. They

went away during the first 10 rounds of ALA chelation. However,

certain high phenol foods [orange and green, certain red and yellow

foods] did not go away until the very end of chelation.

  • 1 year later...

Hi listmates: In regard to the estrogen question: I

have managed women's bio-identical hormone replacement

programs for many years as part of my anti-aging work

(what I was doing before autism struck my life via my

granddaughter). I now have at least 20 women on

various combinations of estrogen, and/or progesterone,

and/or testosterone, including myself for 3 years now

IN COMBINATION WITH LDN and have had only one woman on

hormones who did not love LDN and stopped it, even

after taking her down to smaller doses. Many of these

women do not have diseases other than aging and

stress; I now consider LDN part of my anti-aging

regimen for those over 60 - I hear stories of more

energy, rarely catching infections, more libido,

easier relating. I have a few Hashimoto's, 2 with

fibromyalgia, 2 with chronic fatigue syndrome, 1 MS, 1

Sjogren's, and 5 Crohn's, and always start them out

right away on 4.5mg except for the MS patient.

When I did my clinical study on autistic children and

their parents I had 40 adults and 20 kids, all started

right away on full dose nightly, with rarely a need to

back down and start lower. Thousands of autistic

children have been started on full dose with a small

percent having to back down and start lower. When I

first started working with autistic children, Dr.

Bihari was saying that getting up to full dose as

quickly as possible was preferable and gave shorter

negative reaction times, and I followed his advice and

have found that to be true with few exceptions. In my

research study on HIV+ with 250 patients, 160 of whom

will be on LDN, they will be started out on 4.5mg

right away - they are screened for other diseases

other than HIV+.

As this board is mostly MS'ers, just wanted to let you

know about other groups who do not have the spasticity

issues so most don't need to start low and can combine

LDN with their bio-identical hormones without problems

in my experience. Dr. JM
