Guest guest
I just forwarded to you all of the posts that I have on Thyroid auto immune disorders (only have 4), but one of them was with Graves disease. She had done well. You should receive those soon. Let me know if you don't Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Use of LDN in Graves' disease? I've read Bihari's stuff, done some sketchy reading about LDN including Elaine 's Suite 101 article about the use of LDN in Graves' autoimmune disease, but I haven't seen one Graves' patient talk about LDN and whether or not it's successful or even trial results to that effect. Does anyone know of any trials or even anecdotal evidence as to LDN's usefulness in Graves' disease? I saw someone post a similar inquiry a few months ago, but she didn't get a single response. Guest guest
By the way, I am so sorry if I did not respond to the other person's request about Graves. I did not save anything under the category of Graves Disease so I probably did not know I had anything to send along. Funny enough I asked my husband what Graves disease and he said it had to do with the thyroid. So I looked there and low and behold there was a post. Also, he told me that our neighbor has it, so now I can let her know about LDN as a possible help. Thanks for your post. Aletha PS, could you forward the e-mails to the other person that was also inquiring about Graves. [low dose naltrexone] Use of LDN in Graves' disease? Guest guest
Aletha, I have a friend who was diagnosed with Benign MS. Do you know what that means? Is LDN for her? carol --------- [low dose naltrexone] Use of LDN in Graves' disease? Guest guest
Absolutely. My understanding is that LDN is good for all degrees/or stages of MS. I will send over 's story and the welcome e-mail. Let me know if you have any questions or need more information My best Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Use of LDN in Graves' disease?> > > I've read Bihari's stuff, done some sketchy reading about LDN including > Elaine 's Suite 101 article about the use of LDN in Graves' > autoimmune disease, but I haven't seen one Graves' patient talk about > LDN and whether or not it's successful or even trial results to that > effect. Guest guest
I have Graves Disease and Thyroid Eye Disease. My ophthomologist is interested in me trying LDN to try and stop the antibody activity that is keeping the eye disease active and progressing. So I've queried a couple of groups now for any info / anecdotes / research on LDN use in autoimmune thyroid issues. Haven't found anyone with experience of it yet. I've also written to Elaine (goddess of GD) for further info she may have gathered. How did you hear of it? Are your doctors receptive? My next step is to consult with an immunologist, see if I have other detectable antibodies. But probably we'd ask my endocrinologist to monitor me, and we can easily contact Dr Bihari with any questions. Please stay in touch about this. Guest guest
a, If you're serious about starting LDN and your Eye Doc is willing, it would be great if you could take the TSI antibody test prior to starting LDN and then maybe taking it again 6 months later. It is my understanding that TSI measures the antibodies that present in TED or Graves Eye Disease. If LDN does effect Graves, one might think it would result in a lower TSI. You might want to ask Elaine about this. > > > > I've read Bihari's stuff, done some sketchy reading about LDN including > > Elaine 's Suite 101 article about the use of LDN in Graves' > > autoimmune disease, but I haven't seen one Graves' patient talk about > > LDN and whether or not it's successful or even trial results to that > > effect. Guest guest
Zoey, have you tried LDN?
Guest guest
Yes indeed, TSI (and TBII for the blocking antibodies) would be an appropriate measure of LDN efficacy for Graves' Disease. I had mine done last in August 2007; TSI was 230% (>129% inhibition). The plan is to first see an immunologist and run a full antibody titre, as my ophthalmologist is speculating that I may have other ABs besides thyroid ones. I would love for Elaine to contribute her thoughts, and I see that she does follow this listserv.
