If a child is unable to expell the lead, he retains it. We, too, looked for particular sources. We had the water tested. We had the soil tested. We looked for sources within our 12 year old house. Nothing. I think he is just absorbing and not expelling normal levels of lead from the environment. [ ] Lead poisioning Hi there Probably a daft question but have been going through my sons phoryphin results again and realised that his lead is wayy higher than even the mercury and also arsenic is high. Where would th lead come from. I know the vaccines probably contributed to the mercury but we live in a modern buid house with new plumbing etc. We recently carried out some building work and discovered that we had to lay a methane and CO2 membrane on our foundation as there were high readings in the ground. " As I recall reading, potatoes absorb lead from the soil in which they are grown. Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Share Posted October 25, 2006 Mark, In an interview I read not too long ago with a Dr. who studies this kind of stuff she comments sardonically, " One way to get rid of lead is to have a baby. " (from a Discover magazine) It made me want to vomit when I think of what I passed on to my babies. This, I think, is one huge source of lead that is often overlooked. I grew up in the age of leaded gasoline, leaded paint, and still live in the era of grossly lax standards for lead in things like toys, solder, food, etc. People get lead from chocolate for pete's sake because of the tractors running on leaded gas in the cocoa fields. Our kids are just suffering the consequences because their getting the full impact. We're in better shape because our exposure started at an older age and then was reduced significantly be becoming pregnant. If you've cleaned up your environment as much as possible, another thing to do IME is use DMSA. My son pulled 17 lead on a recent urine test using 8 mg of DMSA. It does the job. The job is just really, really long. Yes, in order to be certified organic the soil has to be tested and they can't have used certain products for at least 3 years, it varies some depending upon which organization certifies them. Also, many of the fertilizers used on regular farms (particularly corporate farms) contain toxic metals which they are not required to mention on the fertilizer labels. Companies sell them to the fertilizer companies to avoid paying to dispose of them as toxic waste. " Fateful Harvest " by Duff is a book on the subject. Your pipes must be newer than 1982 and even then some contractors were still using leaded solder. Soil is next on this list. Back when leaded gas was legal, it added tons of lead to the soil. Especially near the roads. And if anything was built on your land before you were...such as an old farm house. Toys and art supplies. Crayons or paints made overseas can have lead despite saying it meets ASTM standards. As I have read it in the lead books..only Crayola is good. Cheaper toys made in china that have metallic paints or coloring often have lead. Air, Check what industries you have in your city. Any smelters? Incinerators etc. What was there years ago. The EPA site is good or ScoreCard.org for checking your community for contaminations. And of course, schools...they are noted for lead in the plumbing.
