Guest guest
I came home from work yesterday with Little Debbie Carmel Cookie Bars. , 8y7m old, chased me around the kitchen for the one I had in my hand. I finally put it up to his mouth and he bit right into it, chewed it, and swallowed it, then wanted more. I couldn't believe he just ate this! He has NEVER accepted chocolate or carmel in his life. I was so excited about that that I got out a cupcake that he should not be interested in because it had rainbow colored sprinkles all over it. He ate most of it. I got out another one and he rubbed the top of it with all those sprinkles across his mouth. Unreal! A while later I was pealing an avocado (yes, finally some healthy food.) and put a piece on a fork and he ate it with no hesitation. He didn't want a second piece, but he didn't gag on the first piece. The only thing he is getting different is a product called Natural CALM by www.petergillham.com It is a magnesium powder that you make into a drink. won't take it that way so I am sneaking it in his food. He really has been calm for days. His aides (while I work) are also seeing the difference in behavior. Our chiropractor gave me some samples to give him to see if it would help with his constipation problems. I don't think that alone helped that issue, but a combination of things did at least for this time. It is still a problem. Could this magnesium powder done something to him to make him willing to try new foods? This has been the one area that I have always been so unsucessful in. He makes gains everywhere else, but not with food choices. Will he keep trying new foods? I am so excited. April
Guest guest
Hi April, is the magnesium in citrate form? Do you give it with meals? If yes, could that all be possibly be related to oxalate issues I wonder. People on Low Oxalate diet take magnesium (or potassium or calcium citrates) with meals as citrates inhibit formation of oxalates... you might want to post this question to Owens on LOD list (not sure if she posts here??), it sounds like you might (unknowingly, but successfully be dealing with oxalate issues... Guest guest
Don't know if it will last, but try to get lots of healthy food into him while you have a chance! I wonder if you can introduce some high magnesium foods and get him used to eating them. Guest guest
> > What are some high magnesium foods? Thanks, Melinda Here is a good chart from Australia http://www.healthyeatingclub.com/info/books-phds/books/foodfacts/html/data/data5\ d.html Here is an NIH page http://dietary-supplements.info.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium.asp Or, just google " food magnesium " and see what you get.
