Most of my decision was based on the fact that I don't have access to rx, nor do I like using rx. But here is more info that helped me make my decision: Valtrex works on herpes virus, not sure about other viruses. Virastop works on all, or almost all, viruses. Valtrex suppresses the virus. Virastop eliminates the virus. The combination of OLE and Virastop was VERY effective for my son. Dana
Guest guest
Just a few notes on viruses. I heard a talk by Dr. DeMio and he said Valtrex is good for eradicating most herpes viruses even varicella, but not for Epstein Barr Virus. He did not give a remedy for that. Based on our experience with Virastop and Valtrex, thinking they do similiar things to the viruses, but Valtrex appears to be much, much stronger. Valtrex is specifically for Herpes viruses although it may have some effect on others. VS is more broad spectrum. You may well end up trying them both at some point. Then caprylic acid probably will have other effect than just killing yeast. > Food Panel testing showed a moderate allergy to grapefruit so I can't use > GSE for yeast. I've used Thorne SF722 and Tanalbit (has casein) for yeast to good effect. Nell

He did not give a remedy for that. n's been on Valtrex for about three weeks now, up to 1000 mg in 4-5 divided doses. He had an elevated varicella titer, and Megson says Valtrex is effective with retroviruses, which the MMR is contaminated with. So far, no response. It's hard at this point to see what's happening -- he has great days, not so great days, and I have a difficult time knowing what's typical 8 yo stuff and what's something biomedically not right. Guest guest
I certainly hope it works out well, Nell. I have heard of kids responding after they have been on the Valtrex for awhile, so don't give up. We couldn't use the Valtrex, similiar problems as with Virastop. She said about both of them that if felt like there were knives in her stomach, so a no go here. I don't know, maybe you are already using it along with the Valtrex. There was an excellent post by Defelice on the enzymes board a few months back that decribed the actions of OLE. I went back and looked it up if you are interested in reading - it is post #93397. Sheresa
