Guest guest
Hi I have listed a number of sleep aids at http://tinyurl.com/2p57xv A German clinical trial of LDN in the treatment of MS had patients take 3 mg daily at 9 am (to reduce sleep disturbances). The study showed that LDN was still of some value taken at that early hour. For a summary of the study, visit http://tinyurl.com/2vlwnk Regards, Dudley [low dose naltrexone] What time should I take LDN? This is my second time trying LDN. The first time was about a year ago, and I had to stop due to sleep difficulties. I'm trying again now, and once again I'm having terrible sleep problems. I'm only at 1.125 mg (1/4 of a 4.5 mg pill), and even that low of a dose is really disturbing my sleep. Insomnia is one of my main problems right now (I have Crohn's Disease, and abdominal pain and inflammation often keep me awake at night), so anything that worsens my sleep is hard for me to deal with. I go to bed at about 10:00 each night, and take it just before bed. I've been doing this for three weeks, and the sleep disturbances have not gone away. My doctor, who has about 100 patients on LDN for various reasons, tells me that although he believes LDN is more effective when taken at night, he has had several success with several patients taking it in the morning. I know that is not a popular opinion here, but his experience must count for something? I see the recommended time is between 9 PM and 3 AM. If I woke up in the night and took it at 2 AM, is it still likely to wake me up at 4 AM like it does when I take it at 9? Otherwise I am considering trying it in the morning. LDN isn't helping me at the current dose (if anything making my Crohn's sx. worse from lack of sleep), and I certainly can't increase the dose with my sleep probs. I'd love your advice. Thanks, Chris

I've tried just about every sleep aid you can imagine, including drugs (which I don't respond well to and don't want to take. Unfortunately, none of them work. I suspect this is because my insomnia is due to inflammation and pain, and will not resolve until I address the inflammation and pain (which is of course what I'm trying to do with LDN!) Since I am an early riser by nature (and circumstance), would it be better to take the LDN at 6 AM right when I wake up? This is closer to the recommended 3 AM cut-off than 9 AM. Guest guest
Hi I suspect that only God knows whether 6 am would be a better time for you to take LDN than 9 am. If you get up to use the rest room between 2 am and 4 am, that might be your best early morning time. Have you tried Chamomile tea as a sleep aid? It is supposed to soothe digestive upsets. Sincerely, Dudley [low dose naltrexone] Re: What time should I take LDN? > > Hi > > I have listed a number of sleep aids at > > http://tinyurl.com/2p57xv > > A German clinical trial of LDN in the treatment of MS had patients take 3 mg daily at 9 am (to reduce sleep disturbances). Guest guest
Who knows what causes the sleep disturbances. But I know you are correct in that your body needs rest to heal. You might try taking the LDN twenty minutes to a half hour before you go to sleep, to let it dissolve before you lie down. If that doesn't help, your idea to take it when you first awake at night before 3am sounds like a good idea to try while your body adjusts. Just be sure to take it with 6-8 ounces of water or juice. Have you tried benadryl at night to help you sleep, or benadryl and an aspirin, if you can take aspirin? That combo helped me a lot when I couldn't sleep. And it also helps calm inflammation from food allergies, should you have any. Food allergies can manifest immediately, or up to 4 days later, or anywhere in between. And they don't always show in a skin pinprick test, but usually will show there or in an IgE blood test. Also I'm not at all sure LDN sleep disturbances are dose related, and unless you have MS you can start at the 4.5mg that will help heal your gut the fastest. Good luck and best health, Jo chriskjezp wrote: > This is my second time trying LDN. Guest guest
I would try taking Melatonin, Valerian or 5-HTP to help with sleep problems. Art -- > > This is my second time trying LDN. Guest guest
Hi I'm sorry I can't answer you if you can take LDN in the morning. I would like to know why you are using such a low dose of the medication? I started with 3 mg and used that for 3 weeks. Since then I've used 4.5 mg. It's only those with MS (espesially) that start with smaller doses and they use longer time on each. Dr. Jill used 4.5 mg immediately while she investigated LDN and CD in her pilot study. No problems as far as I understand. I have learned at this forum that if you have severe sleep disturbances you may use melatonin(e) sp?. It helps you regulate the sleep. Please, search the forum for this remedy, I have seen posts suggesting this several times when someone have sleepdisturbances. Guest guest
One should not use narcotics, steroids, interferons and chemotherapy while taking LDN. Benadryl is okay to use.
