Guest guest
Jan, Well, if it helps, I don't think you are paranoid, or we are too :-) She attended a preschool with fluoridated water, so we trucked in reverse osmosis bottled water for the whole class as my dh didn't want her singled out, as well as the snacks which were carrot cake muffins or fruit. She is now going to a rural school without fluoridated water, but the first thing they wanted my dd to sign was a permission slip for fluoride treatment. When did dentistry get to be the school's business? Luckily our's does not like the school food and promptly pronounced it " awful " . So she will take her natural peanut butter whole wheat sandwich, with her natural applesauce or fruit, my dd did also, I never let her eat that food, which, btw, IS for the most part, microwaved. Thirty years ago, this was quite unusual, but people kind of get it now, that you don't want to feed your kid junk. Even the fast food restaurants have started to offer alternatives to french fries in their kid's meals. I wish the school's would figure it out. I just always said it was an allergy, with all the allergies kids have now, the school should get that and they don't want your kid to have an allergic reaction at school, believe me. [ ] OT: school and food questions My son is about to start pre-K full day soon. Obviously we don't eat what they serve there. Maybe I am paranoid but I don't even let him drink out of water fountains...so I would rather he not at school either. Some of the lunch menu items might be ok, but were are talking very few. The rest he wouldn't eat anyway. I am concerned that a lot of what they serve is canned, white bread, canned juice, hot dogs, milk...even the veggies are from a can. And the horror..who knows what they microwave! What is the nicest way to handle the fact that I don't want him eating school food, or drinking water not from a bottle? I would prefer to send in his own bottled water and his lunch and snacks. Am I being to paranoid like everyone tells me...or am I right here? He shouldn't eat this stuff? Of course I don't want my son to be singled out or be " that kid " whose mom is a little off..but I have put so much into him with his treatment and I just can't bear the thought of him eating all that with who knows what in it. How do others handle this?
Guest guest
Oh horror..that's another peave of mine...flouride...junk~ People think I am crazy when I tell them that the flouride added to water is purchase from a fertilizer plant..and it considered hazard waste. They would have to pay to haul it away if they weren't selling it to the H2O company. Oh...yeah the dentistry thingy..we got some papers that my son had to have a dental exam, flouride and x-rays before attending. I got the exam and had the dentist fill out that the rest was not warranted for my child. I was informed that he is to see a dentist every 6 months or he cannot attend. I guess they are making up for the slackers out there or something. Fouride treatments require a prescription when not given by the dentist. I would have asked them what doctor prescribed it for your child? A-holes. Oh..yes we will document that he allergic to anything microwaved..he turns into Hyperactive ADD monster..LOL...followed by fits of rage child. Thanks!! I think I might have fun with this... > > Jan, > > Well, if it helps, I don't think you are paranoid, or we are too :- ) She attended a preschool with fluoridated water, so we trucked in reverse osmosis bottled water for the whole class as my dh didn't want her singled out, as well as the snacks which were carrot cake muffins or fruit. > > She is now going to a rural school without fluoridated water, but the first thing they wanted my dd to sign was a permission slip for fluoride treatment.
