But if you get a bowel blockage anyway, often one high dose of Vitamin C will get the peristaltic action sufficiently going. It also may help to take a syringe or medicine dropper full of vitamin E oil or olive oil or what have you and squirt it up yourself, too, then lie down in bed on your side on a towel or something and relax until you feel the urge. When you sit on the throne put your feet up on something so that your knees are above your hips. It may hurt getting unblocked but if you can relax and go with it you'll save yourself a trip to the hospital and I promise you'll be fine. A few weeks ago my husband embarrassedly told me he thought he was going to have to see a doctor and finally told me why. I gave him a glass of V8 with 6 grams of powdered vitamin C mixed in (this was in addition to the 2 grams he takes every day, divided am and pm). We happened to have vitamin E oil, and an extra needless syringe from when one of our cats was ill. At first he balked at squirting himself up, but then decided to do it. Afterward I gave him a towel to lie down on and it wasn't long before he was able to be successful, despite the pain at passing something of that size. He was sore for the rest of the night and even some next morning, but by next evening he was fine. BTW, this also works with constipated cats. About a gram of vitamin C will do the trick and you don't have to squirt them up with any oil. Best health, Jo
