Guest guest
Jan, I would really recommend EpiCor, from VRP. It is pretty expensive - almost a dollar a capsule if you go for the 500 mg size, though less for the 125 mg size. (And also less for bulk orders.) However, it *really* works to keep you from getting sick, and (for my son anyway) it also helps to keep a lid on yeast. We've run out and I am keeping my fingers crossed that my son stays healthy till I can get some more. There are stories of people who worked with the original animal feed supplement that EpiCor was derived from that did not get sick at all, ever, for years and years. Have you had his neutrophils checked recently? take care Rene > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after another > since starting school in Sept. Guest guest
We got nothing with EpiCor. What does work here is Neutrophil Plus from Biotics Research, a little pricey at $25 for 90 capsules, but gets rid of the yeast and has kept her cold free for almost a month now as we had the same thing since the beginning of school; walking pneumonia followed by strep. Also, Jan did you have his throat cultured? Could be strep. [ ] dmsa and colds? We are on round 12 with my 4 yr old of dmsa/ala on Andy protocol. My son is on all the supplements recomended here. We even added colostrum tablets, but not sure 250mg is enough for 40 pound kid. On GSE for yeast and probiotics too. The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after another since starting school in Sept. Even with increased C, zinc, echinacea, etc. OLE made him miserable. Anyway, whenever we it seems that he has gotten rid of his cold by day 2 on a round he is sick again. Mild runny nose, and a lot of coughing. Dry hacking mainly. I have been doing less rounds only twice a month because it takes so long to get the cold/cough under control again. However, by the third week he really needs a round. He starts regressing and his behavior gets terrible. Any suggestions? Or should we just accept that he will have tons of cold and keep chelating? Guest guest
We did not have a throat culture but that's a good idea. He has no fever, so we did not think it more than a cold virus. Will look into the Neutrophil to see if we can afford yet another supplement. Is this problem low neutrophils that we are seeing? > > We got nothing with EpiCor. Guest guest
We have not had his neutrophils checked. I am not sure our doc would order blood work as she has no idea what we are doing. I am concerned that if we go in and tell them we are chelating him for what they beleive are low lead levels, they will call CPS on me. > > > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after > another > > since starting school in Sept. >
Guest guest
Yes, dmsa lowers neutrophils and low neutrophils are thought to be the cause of yeast. I can only tell you that here, 10 days of Neutrophil Plus and there is no sign of the yeast and no more colds. I had erroneously thought this was due to Transfer Factor, but a trial of taking them both out found the no yeast/colds due to the Neutrophil Plus. I hear you about the cost of all these, but this is one we have to keep. Guest guest
You can just ask for a CBC based on his frequent/constant colds when you take him in to the ped. It's good to have a baseline occasionally, anyway with any kid. Get his throat cultured while you are there, hate to keep harping on this, but you can get some nasty stuff with untreated strep, like rheumatic fever or kidney disease, happened to me, untreated strep, kidney disease. Guest guest
By the way forgot to ask how it tastes? He doesn't swallow anything yet. So we need to be prepared for how to get it into him. I know the virastop smells and tastes funny. We have a hard time with that. He gets a taste of it mixed into something and then gags and then it's Virastop on the floor. > > > > > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after > > another > > > since starting school in Sept. > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Well, it doesn't smell good, it has maitake mushrooms in it, so I think it smells like dirt, lol. Ours was taught the " Nell " method of capsule swallowing, but this is a pretty big capsule, so she has to take it in her yogurt, and doesn't much like it. However, the yeast and colds are much worse, so we persevere. This has been a key for her and her immune system problems, so I suspect she will be on it for a long while. [ ] Re: dmsa and colds? Guest guest
I wonder whether 's experience with the Epicor was like ours with LDN, which definitely left us with more yeast than we started with. I am guessing that it helped the immune system try to deal with some viral issues, which created more yeast.... Anne > > > > > > We got nothing with EpiCor. Guest guest
Anyone know whether strep can be an issue but not be detected in a throat culture? Anne > > > > > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after > > another > > > since starting school in Sept. > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
While not positive it should be detected by culture if they have it. Some children are carriers of this, but it usually shows on culture. > > > > > > > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after > > > another > > > > since starting school in Sept. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Anne, Our little grandson often has positive cultures - not the quick strep variety - but the true culture. The quick strep tests are usually negative for him. His OCD symptoms are 10 on a 10 point scale when he has strep. That is the only clue for my daughter. He has no fever, no malaise, no appetite changes etc. Her doc has learned through enough positive cultures to listen to her when she says strep is a problem. There have been times when the true culture is negative; a repeat has usually been positive. > > > > > > > > The problem we are having is that he has had one cold after > > > another > > > > since starting school in Sept. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Jan, Your son may have mold allergies. Apparently mold is everywhere is small amounts. You may want to spray the room he sleeps in or your house with " oust " and door knobs/ around windows with a surface disinfectant at least an hour before he enters the room. Also, take a qtip with vaseline petroleum jelly on it and apply in each nostril. Your nose is the first line to protect against entry into your respiratory system. Also, check out Dr. Amy Homes website which has a link to doctors that are familiar with chelation so that you can find one that wont have you in fear of contacting child protection services. It is pretty important to work with a doctor when chelating because it puts a burden on the childs system/organs. A doctor can test to make sure you are cycling the chelation enough to be effective without damaging vital organs. Good Luck and let me know if this helps! Farhin > > We got nothing with EpiCor. Guest guest
I had never considered this, it didn't create loads of yeast like with Virastop, so little increase I am not sure it did, but I guess it's possible. We saw nothing else with it and the reports from people who said they got a reduction in colds from the EpiCor was definitely not true here. Guest guest
Mold allergies are possible in the fall and winter, more likely in the summer. Although, if you have any moisture problems with your house they can occur anytime. Thinking for awhile that we have mold allergies here. Guest guest
Hi We have been on TD DMSA for 6 months now, I never connected his cold with DMSA, after reading the posts, I am wondering does the DMSA is causing cold. From our experience, it certainly appears DMSA is feeding yeast also. We had him on Diffucan for 15 days, first 12 days, he was unusually calm, he would sit and watch TV. His oral stimming was pretty much gone. the 13th day when we started TD DMSA, boom everything went back to normal(!). Running around, stimming, toe walking. I am afraid to keep him on Diffucan due to the side effects? Any suggestions how to fight Yeast when we are on DMSA. Thank you Muthu Father of 4 yrs old > > Sofia, > > I hate to say that it aggravated the yeast, but I could swear it did. Guest guest
We have been using GSE daily and then increase it when on dmsa. We also have daily probiotics. IF we miss the GSE he is a mess as you describe. DMSA does increase yeast because it is moving metals through the gut and metals mess up the flora in the gut allowing yeast to overgrown. So using a yeast treatment is necessary before, during and in between rounds. We chose GSE because it's natural, inexpensive and it works. My son always gets a cold towards the end of a round. So does my NT daughter and I have had it happen myself. I don't think dmsa " causes " colds just that when chelating the immune system is under strain. Dmsa also lowers neutrophils somewhat, so fighting off a cold when chelating is tougher. This allows things like cold viruses to get the upper hand. I have gotten his cold under control or gone usually within a few days of stopping dmsa by increasing c, zinc, colostrum and giving virastop. Echinacea works well too. WE give that a few times a day for 10 days then stop for 10 days. After my last few posts about him getting sick yet again on a round...I increased his colostrum to half a table twice a day, added 10mg more zinc, and increased his c. Within a day or so the cold has gotten better and is almost gone. This cold problem is less in the summer. He just gets a runny nose on a round then. > > > > Sofia, > > > > I hate to say that it aggravated the yeast, but I could swear it > did.
