My NT niece did this incessantly and she was a bit of a pesty kid. We

thought it was for attention. Turns out she had serious nasal drip going on

from a

sinus infection.

Have you considered nasal drip, allergies, back of the throat congestion?

When he's more active and moving his body may handle it better but when he's

sitting still or tired at night maybe its worse and not moving on its own.

I know when I have stuff like that its worse at night.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the idea, I had thought of that as well, but he doesn't seem to

have any stuffiness or cold like symptoms. I will ask him if he has a runny

nose " inside " ...

You're not using ALA as well? ALA can sometimes cause a burning in the

throat (especially when you open the capsules like we did for a while.)

My son gets a throat stim every so often. It doesn't last, though.

Maybe he's having acid reflux?

My ADHD daughter does this sometimes. After reading Doris Rapp's

book, I paid more attention and I think it is allergies. In her

case, it happens consistently more on damp/rainy days or when she is

around a dusty environment. Or after eating certain foods.

No, not using ALA yet, planned to introduce that after about 30 rounds.

I don't think it is reflux, but hard to know I guess.

The only thing left to eliminate is enzymes.

I took a look at his hair test and am wondering if it could be from high

copper or high zinc.

He was also off the charts low on lithium.

We are planning another hair test soon, but he didn't have the problem

before just a few weeks ago.

I will watch for that, it is spring and other people are having allergies

kick up around here.

The foods have been pretty consistent.

For me, I have this problem when I eat something I don't tolerate.

For my #1, it meant yeast overgrowth.

I knew what you meant.

I am not sure what to say about this, as far as I can tell he isn't eating

anything " unusual " ... pretty much the same old GFCF stuff.

As far as something he doesn't tolerate, that could possibly mean that he

isn't tolerating something in his supplements, but not sure what that might

be.

I have been encouraging him to cough instead of clearing his throat and he

usually gets something loosened up, he seems to clear his throat a bit less

now that he is coughing instead ....

I am starting to think this might be it. He doesn't seem to have a cold,

but maybe he has slight allergies and is getting post nasal drip.

Many of my food/supplement intolerances manifested as a dripping

sensation and a pooling of liquid at the very back of my throat. Once

I eliminated the problem foods [some I used enzymes], the dripping

disappeared, and so did the throat clearing and coughing.

This one is so hard, because there are so many variables.

It would be so much easier if it were me instead of him, seems like I would

be able to pin it down easier.

I am pretty sure it is post nasal drip now that I have been watching, and it

is getting a little better, now if I can just identify what is causing it.

I am pretty comfortable that it isn't anything serious, so I plan to start

back up chelating again this weekend .... bye bye sleep .... :-)

I guess I'm a little late coming into this discussion, but

I have a lifetime of throat-clearing (and coughing) experience

and come from a family with same. Allergies - in my case both

food and environmental can do this.

What helps me (especially when the mucus is sticky/dry or

very thick) is to take an expectorant and/or decongestant

(either herbal or OTC type can be used). Of course there

may be tolerance issues to consider with either of these.
