Guest guest
Many thanks to all of you who post here; it is an invaluable source of information. We took a break from chelating with TD-DMPS and haven't done anything biomedical for about 5 months or so. I also wanted to see if I noticed any differences in him off the TD-DMPS, but it's really hard for me to tell...there simply hasn't been anything striking either way (no regression but no progression - as far as I can see - either). Now we are considering doing a ALA/DMSA protocol....but I am curious to know about whether these have very strong tastes. Typically, when we give our son his melatonin (1 mg crushed into his applesauce at bedtime) he doesn't object to it. However, I wonder, can any of you tell me do ALA and DMSA have very strong tastes? I am concerned that, if they do, this endeavor might be less than successful. For instance, he was o.k. with taking fish and flaxseed oils when he was younger, but now he is really resistant to these. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Our son is six years of age, 55 lbs.. Non-verbal, loose bowels. Many thanks, Ann Mount Vernon, New York mccarrafitz@...
Guest guest
dmsa and ala taste and smell a bit sulphery. Usually you can disgues it in something with a strong taste such a peanut butter or lemonaid. They get used to it after a while though and don't seem to care. I would also advise following them with water to rinse the mouth out. ALA can be irritating to some. My chews his up. I put the powder in something he really likes. He has an affinity for those mini Reases' Peanut butter cups. And since he usually isn't allowed to have anything like that, he is really ready to take his medicine. So you have to find something your son loves that will hide the taste. I would not expect him to just eat the powder plain though. Some people put it in juice. This works well if you mix it rigth before you use it. If you premix the taste is worse, and the juice must be cold. Cold hides flavor. My son is classic sensory and we could not give him children's medicines. He would gag them up. But he takes the dmsa/ala fine. Best bet...hide it! Nutter balls work well too. > > Many thanks to all of you who post here; it is an invaluable source > of information. > > We took a break from chelating with TD-DMPS and haven't done anything > biomedical for about 5 months or so. Guest guest
I take capsules so couldn't tell you how they taste. A time or two the ALA capsule has gotten stuck in my throat and disolved. When that happens it makes me cough as it's a very fine powder. What else were you doing besides chelation? Probiotics? Digestive enzymes? Other supplements? GFCF? What's his diet like?
