Guest guest
I have a high-functioning AS child of the age of 6. Does that count? LOL I have used the cutler protocol and he just last week, no longer qualified as autistic. Still has a few special needs such as sensory needs, but the big thing is he no longer is considered autistic! So yeah, I'd say we've had progress. LOL The Brain Gym sounds interesting. I hope it does what you want! Wyndie > > Been trying to keep up with all the posts, and have missed many, I > confess. I don't know if this has been asked recently. Guest guest
How are you testing/re-testing? Not challenge tests, I hope. What dose and dosing schedule are you using? How much does your child weigh? I presume he has NO mercury amalgam dental fillings?! What are you seeing behaviorally? It often takes about 10 rounds of 3 days on and at least as many off to start seeing results in one your child's age. Guest guest
Thanks Believe it or not, we have only done 3 rounds of chelation so far. He's a huge responder. About a year ago, we started eating only natural, whole foods. He improved a bit with that. Then we started supplementation for his various issues. Then we started treating yeast. He has made small improvements with each change. I am still going to continue chelation until his tests come back saying he's clear. I assume that b/c his first obvious problem was anaphylactic food allergies, that once he loses those, he will be healed. I don't know, that's just my theory. We still have things to work on, he's not totally NT yet, but it was nice to hear " he doesn't qualify anymore " . I hope to hear from many on this list that their child receives the same announcement. Wyndie > > > > I have a high-functioning AS child of the age of 6. Guest guest
I have a 7 yo son who is moderate to high functioning. We are on round 12 of DMSA/ALA using Cutler protocol. He is in a mainstream 1st grade class with a 1-1 aide. He is academically at the head of his class, but had problems with communication (mostly echolalic), social skills, some behavioral issues, etc. Since beginning chelation he has begun to have more reciprocal and less echolalic language, will make full sentences now, is interacting with the other children more, will stay on task better, and has fewer outbursts in class. If his aide ever had to leave the room, he would get extremely upset, but now she says he doesn't mind if she leaves and continues with his work. She is glad he is becoming more independent, but sad that he doesn't need her as much now. After round 2, he learned to ride a bike, which I had been trying to teach him for 4-5 years. We never could get him to look at anything in the sky, (helicopter, plane, birds, moon, etc.). We would try to show him something, but he would never look up. Now, if he hears a bird, plane, etc. he looks up and comments on it without prompting. He loves to look at the moon and stars now. He also used to spend quite a bit of time lining his cars up in the windowsill, and that behavior has stopped. Now he draws pictures with roads and houses and drives his cars on the roads and pretends he is going different places like school, grandma's house, doctor, etc. We have had a few problems along the way, mainly constipation issues which have been resolved once we began using GSE and probiotics (thanks to everyone for their help on this one!). We finally have daily bms, not as formed as I would like, but at least no more impaction problems. I was concerned when we started because I had heard that the older the kids are, the less effective the treatment might be. I have been very happy with the results we have seen so far, even though I wish we would see more (would be nice to do a treatment and " POOF " no more ASD). I know we have a long way to go, but the early results have given me hope for full recovery. I have never used DMSA only, we started with DMSA/ALA 12.5 mg each (he weighs 45 lbs), but I believe there have been some who have seen good results with DMSA only, but ALA will be needed eventually. We have never tried " Brain Gym " activities. He receives ST, PT and OT (including cranial sacral therapy) through the school, and they take them for swimming lessons once a week. I have been very blessed to be in a public school that is so cooperative. I never had to ask for any services, the school offered it all from the start. I hope you have great results with your treatment. It is definitely the best intervention we have done. Carmen > > Been trying to keep up with all the posts, and have missed many, I > confess. Guest guest
This is great, Wyndie. The normal course of chelation is to get improvement for 1-4 months, then a slow down of 6-9 months where you don't see much happening but important to keep chelating, then improvements will come again. Great news! [ ] Re: ANY sucess with DMSA, anyone? Thanks Believe it or not, we have only done 3 rounds of chelation so far. He's a huge responder. Guest guest
Thanks . So during that 6-9 months, do you test to see if things are still moving? How do you know you are done? Guest guest
My son does not have all the issues but I wanted to add that he is 4 years old now. I noticed things that were not normal at 18 months. He lined things up, poor eye contact, the works. Basically, by the time I figured out that something was really wrong he looked like PDD. He had all the symptoms of it according to diagnostics. I tested his hair and he was very toxic in most of the heavy metals. We started with a diet change. All natural, close to Feingold. Then added probiotics, and supplements. Finally getting to Andy's protocol for chelation. With the first round we saw huge improvements. Like a different kid my husband said. We have done 12 rounds and according to doc he is " normal " . He is still some sensory, and can be stimmy or hyper at times. But this comes and goes with yeast problems. When treated he settles down. The improvments are unbeleivable for him. He has even started to tolerate foods that he could not before. At least in moderation. This treatment has made the world for us. I think that any child with problems, it's worth a try. > > Been trying to keep up with all the posts, and have missed many, I > confess.
