Guest guest
Jenn My husband has been on LDN almost three years - no new exaserbations just holding steady. The damage he does have - slight balance probs, some cognitive probs, he got before he was diagnosed and onto LDN. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, Good question - I'll be anxious to read the responses as they come in. It's not much to go on, but my daughter has been on LDN since October 2006 and has had no new symptoms, exacerbations, or even " pseudo " exacerbations. She has L'hermittes most all the time as a residual symptom from when she had a big exacerbation while on Rebif. A time or two one of the other symptoms she's had in the past has popped up for a short while then has gone away again, but as I said, nothing new and nothing that really interferes. She's one of the lucky ones, the bulk of her symptoms seem to have cleared up. We pray it stays that way and believe it will! Hope you're doing well. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, I was on 3mg of LDN for a month and then just recently upped to 4.5mg. About 3 weeks into my 3mg period, I majorly overexerted myself cleaning out and reorganizing my garage and ended up having an exacerbation that lasted for a little over a week. I started on the 4.5mg about 9 days after the onset of the exacerbation and the morning after I took the first 4.5mg pill, the symptoms were gone. Learning my physical limits is the hardest thing for me, at this point. I'm so used to hard physical labor over long periods of time and I just can't do it anymore. I'm learning to pace myself and learn patience in accomplishing tasks, but it's a challenge! Hope this helps, > > > > <http://www.homecareerinfo.com/0632> > I'd like to know how many have had exacerbations while on LDN, and if you > have had them, did you come out of them with residual symptoms? Guest guest
, I totally understand about realizing your limitations -- that is one of the things that I have been working on the last year. It is such a challenge. I had a relapse in late May/early June and I think it was triggered not only by an increased amount of stress in my life (personal relationships and a lot of financial difficulties ,will do that to you) AND by cleaning out my garage! I just worked way too hard, over taxed my muscles and my exhaustion level and I ended up needing to use my cane again for another 7 to 10 days. Very frustrating!! I think as moms (if your a mom) we have even a harder time in that area. There is just always so much to do and not enough hours to get everything done in, ya know? I think learning the word "no" is important, don't you?? Guest guest
So basically, what you are all saying is DON’T CLEAN OUT THE GARAGE, right? Sorry couldn’t resist. Guest guest
I think the moral of the story is -- manage your stuff so it doesn't get out of control so you don't have to do a major garage clean out! If I waited for my husband to clean out the garage...well...it....maybe....would just NEVER happen! Cleaning anything is just not his thing! For me, my flare up was just the same old symptoms coming back to haunt me -- difficulty walking, lack of balance, legs lacking coordination, having to use a cane for support, etc. I don't think all my symptoms came back, just the main ones. I've also had small flare ups when I'm running a fever. For whatever reason my legs don't work if I have a fever and my body is trying to fight off an infection. Guest guest
I think we've hit on something, Chrisie! It's cleaning out garages that causes MS! WOO HOO! We're all cured! (But then we all have garages that we can't park our cars in, because there's too much stuff in them.) lol Yes, I am a mom as well and yes, I believe that especially as a single parent, the stress and overexertion may be even more of an issue, because we don't have anyone readily available to help with those big projects (or the little ones, for that matter.) But, as I said, I will keep truckin' along...just not as quickly and as enthusiastically as I used to! Thankfully, I became good at saying " no " to other people when my daughter was very young, so that hasn't been a huge issue. It's the expectations and demands I put on myself that are the problem, so saying " no " to ME is what I need to get good at. Feel free to email me privately, if you ever need a sympathetic " ear " or would just like to compare notes on non-LDN related stuff! Take care, > > > > > > > > <http://www.homecare erinfo.com/ 0632> > > I'd like to know how many have had exacerbations while on LDN, and > if you > > have had them, did you come out of them with residual symptoms? > From what I > > have read, an exacerbation- at least a new exacerbation- is rare and > residual > > symptoms are close to nonexistant. Guest guest
LOL! Yep! No more garages for me! Seriously, though...I had the same old symptoms that came back to say HELLO! (not just hi) A few other things that were going on at the same time and I wonder how much they contributed to the exacerbation: After I was done with the garage, I was so sore and exhausted that I decided to take a soak in a hot tub AND I was, at the time, on my period. Both of those things increase my body temperature, which I understand can cause an exacerbation. So maybe the combination of all those things did me in. I guarantee, I won't be doing it again (all except the period part - I don't have much choice in that.) > > > > > > > > <HYPERLINK " http://www.homecareerinfo.com/0632 " \nhttp://www.homecare > erinfo.com/ 0632> > > I'd like to know how many have had exacerbations while on LDN, and > if you > > have had them, did you come out of them with residual symptoms? > From what I > > have read, an exacerbation- at least a new exacerbation- is rare and > residual > > symptoms are close to nonexistant. Guest guest
Gurls: I think there is a simple correlate to understand the temperature thing. While heat may be a transient muscle relaxer after excersize and acceptable for the healthy, for those of us with immune disorders that have been acutely potentiated by imprudent activity, heat accelerates abnormal immune complex activation and reactions and increases inflammation directly. The real answer that I have found in preventing likelyhood of a flare from over excertion is, sadly COLD immersion. Cold temps directly slow inflammation. It's not initially pleasant and takes fortitude that most of us have already been stripped of but it will decrease the severity of hyper-immune reaction, or at least it works that way for me.
