anxiety about going to school

I was just wondering if anyone has this problem, or any advice about

what I should do about it. My son ( 6 1/2, kindergarten, and

somewhere between PDD and Asperger's if there is such a thing) was

GREAT at the beginning of the school year. He has a full time aide

with him, he loved to go to school, no major problem at school just a

few minor like attention and social skiils, the norm. Near the

holdiays right after Thanksgiving it all changed and he has so much

axnxiety about going to school which the anxiety spiraled into other

things also.. anxiety about eating, going to speech, etc... He goes

back tomorrow after the holiday and does NOT want to go. I think

maybe all of the changes with the routine around the holidays may

have caused it. I get pretty stressed out too with the holidays..

too much to do and no time.. I think he senses that also. He also has

anxiety about going to the cafeteria, the school is great they will

let him eat in the classroom with his aide. I hope in January all

will be back to normal with the routine and the anxiety will go

away. Once he gets to school he seems to be fine, it's just getting

him there. He loses sleep over it becuase he worries about going. Has

anyone experienced this? We may consider medication if this doesn't

change. But I read some of the adhd medications (that's what was

recommended because he is " unofficial " ADHD) have anxiety as a side

effect. I think mabe just something mild to " take the edge off " ,

nothing heavy duty, may work. Does anyone know of any medication that

may work? This is really a last resort for us, and my gut is still

telling me not to do it, but I can't let this continue. His anxiety

is causing me anxiety :) Thanks! I'm really glad this group is here,

most people I talk to, even some of his doctors, just don't get it.
