I would say that an IEP meeting should be called to discuss your daughter's

latest grades. She is failing three subjects. Pam

I sooooo feel your pain. My 14 yo DD with AS just had her conferences and

she has 2 F's, 1 D-, 1 D+, and 2 C-. She also is mainstreamed. I wish she

could be in a contained class. In fact, she just asked if she could be in

special ed class because the amount of work is overwhelming her so much.

The school says that she is far to smart to put in with the special ed kids.

I wonder if homeschooling is my only option? Let me know if you get any

answers. I also have a 12 yo DS with AS who will be in middle school next

year.

My 13 yo DD with AS just brought home her 2nd trimester report card.

3 F's, 1 D-, 1 incomplete. She did get an A- in P.E., tho! She's

completely mainstreamed, with the addition of Speech Therapy which she

barely qualifies for; they keep her in it so she can ride the " little bus "

to school with her brother. What's wrong with this picture?!

At her IEP a few months ago I asked if she could be put in the learning

center for math and they said that the kids in there were way behind her in

math and they didn't think it would work. Can I insist that they put her in

there? Should I pull her out of mainstream and put her in the spec. ed.

class? Obviously something needs to change.

This is a great school, overall, that she's in, and if I request a change,

they will make every effort to do it. I'm just not sure which route to

take.

I'm not sure if I'm looking for suggestions or just venting, but any input

would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You need to request a complete educational evaluation to see if she has a

learning disability causing her to do so poorly in her classes. If she has an

IEP, she should be getting help so she is not failing. If she is failing,

the IEP is nt working and needs to be changed. They often say you can't have

the LD class or resource room because the kids in there are slower or behind.

But this is just because that's they way they do things and schools hate

change. Change anyway. They need to provide help at her level. So request

whatever program she needs and request she be taught at her level of

instruction. This is what the " I " in IEP stands for.
