Lynn,

I get something from my vet called " Advantage " . It is applied around the

dogs neck. There is a slight mothball smell at first, but is gone in few

hours. Works exceptionally well. Kills fleas and their larvae.

Geri, every once in a while I will smell this weird smell too, and no one else

smells it. I go around sniffing trying to figure it out. It isn't all the

time, I

suppose that could be bile in my system too? It is so weird! I can't use flea

sprays and such on my dogs because of my liver, I am too afraid of the stuff.

I too use Advantage on my cocker spaniel, but if you aren't comfortable with

it I do know of another solution. Sprinkle Borax all over your floors, let

it sit (I do mine just before bed, and leave overnite), and then vacuum it

all up. The way it works is that it dehydrates the fleas, so they are all

killed once they get on the carpet. It's basically the same stuff that Flea

Zappers uses and they guarantee it for a year! Perfectly safe for pets, and

sold in the laundry section for a couple of dollars!

I have noticed similar, and also when I work up a sweat it stings my eyes

something terrible, which it never did before. My hubby says he can't smell me,

but I can, and I hate it. Lynn aih

Thanks , I have heard of that, but it is still an insecticide, which is not

good for your liver. Also my pet sleeps on the bed with us and I would be

petting him. I really don't know what to do about it. I did have some stuff

that was non toxic and killed fleas great, but I can't find a place to buy it

any more. Thanks for the help, Lynn aih

I too use Advantage on my dog. I used to put it on her myself now I make

my husband do it. I just try not to pet her neck there, Sometimes I

forget. After a few days I don't think it matters She also sleeps in

bed.I try not to let things like that bother me . After all I don't know

what I would do without her. She listens to all my problems and never

looks at me like I am crazy.

Hi all,

Fabreeze is toxic to animals though, my neighbor's dog got very listless,

wouldn't eat, and the vet couldn't figure it out. Come to find out she has

used fabreeze all over the dogs bed, and the furniture...

This is a message from the Veterinary Emergency Center in Needham regarding a

product called Fabreze.

Fabreze a new product that is used to get odors out of fabrics has been

causing deaths and illness in dogs and birds. There have been multiple

instances reported in the past few weeks of dogs and birds dying after

Fabreze was used anywhere near them. Some dogs have only gotten very ill, but

some have died. Several birds have died as well. Fabreze contains zinc

chloride, which is the culprit. If you have recently sprayed your dog's bed

with this product, please wash it until you get all of the Fabreze out, or get

your dog new bedding. Please pass the word along to your friends so we can

prevent further deaths

Lynn,

Back to the subject of weird smells - I was told that when I was constantly

smelling chemicals that no one else could smell, I was actually " smelling "

the bilirubin in my system. While that was going on, my urine was also

saffron colored, like a dye and it would stain my underwear. The stains

never did wash out. I still occasionally think I smell chemicals but there

are no other signs of bilirubin in either my urine color or in my labs.

Take care,

Geri

We used baking soda in water on the walls, but then a neighbor suggested

vinegar. We used white vinegar especially where the cats had sprayed the

lower walls. It took almost 2 months to make the room usable because I

didn't change the baking soda daily - I would forget since we were re-doing

the whole house. I understand now that if I had been more diligent, the

smell would have disapated in a week or two. This is the room that became

Elie's special play room (small with strange ceiling and walls at weird

angles- he loved that spaace.

Thanks Sara. Since dh isn't smoking anymore, I will have to wash the walls

with vinegar too. May be a year before I get caught up enough to do it

though. LOL Hey, I love the Febreze....sprayed it once last night and I

haven't smelled anything in their all day. COOL!!!!!! Elie's playroom

sounds neat.

I say let the dogs and innocent babies take the blame whenever

possible....I have been out shopping and walk over near a baby, let

it go...wait a second then turn to the baby, wrinkle my nose and

walk away....with the mother picking up the baby and sniffing its

bottom.

Kristy,

That's hysterical!! Poor, innocent little doggies! I hope you

slipped them an extra treat for getting yelled at on your behalf :)

somewhere!! I stood by innocently while they spent over 10 minutes

searching under and behind sofa's and other furniture. They were so

perplexed when they couldnt find it!!! And the poor dogs got yelled

at for nothing!

This is sooo funny! Poor critters -- there are going to be many, many

animals that will get the blame out there! LOL

I have a suggestion for you, Marta! I just found the new Clorox and Lysol

odor neutralizers and they WORK -- the Clorox works much better than the Lysol

(in my humble opinion). After spraying the bathroom, the odor just disappears

in a jiff. You might want to take one to " your " bathroom and leave it there,

anonymously, of course!

Hi Marta!

I'm shameless, too! I think people would rather we try to take care of the

" aroma " than to hide the fact! LOL

Yes, these are spray cans (I know, I'd rather not use aerosols, but sometimes

a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do)!

Gosh I love Avila Fruit Stand...I always go there and love to take

my granddaughter...love the pies too.

As for your question....Animal smells do not bother me and I LOVE

vinegar flavored stuff. In fact during the first 6 months post op I

craved it.

It is interesting the twist and turns that can happen after the

surgery.

Sandi!

You Made it! Welcome to the century club, regardless of what Dr Zs

scale says! You did it.
