Guest guest
Yes, thank you. I just watched it from netflix and found it to be a bundle of emotions all rolled into one as I watched. Some parts I didn't believe, but letting go of judgements and appreciating the movie for what it was is a great lesson that can be applied to people as well! I really enjoyed it. Guest guest
" The official website has been dismantled (www.mozartandthewhale.com) and another affiliated with AFF but not the movie has been set up at a similar website and which does not present AS accurately, in my opinion. " Has anyone out there actually SEEN the movie???? " A friend of the folks of AFF made the movie, then had a falling out with AFF. Last I heard (although I am not exactly following this whole thing - and what i hegard may have been hearsay) AFF was trying to diss the movie because of their dispute with its creators. The general response to the movie by autistics has been luke-warm. Tom Administrator
Guest guest
I did see Motzart and the Whale I was struck by: (regardless of their level of functioning depicted in the movie) AS being shades(a stratification of behavior) of what was portrayed. In the movie the characters are intensly effected by their perseverations. I was also struck by their individual drive the be viewed as normal. Not so much by the female but very much by the male. I think it shows that people are aware that they are different and they want to be accepted. He believes that can be accomplished through visual assimilation. She believes that she wants to accept herself, as she is and just live the different life that is theirs. They understand each other. When I began the movie I said, " that is not me, that is not me!!! " And by the end I couldn't claim that there was no resemblence of thought. I may function better but there was a kernal of that internal confusion. The juxtaposition of my view of society and societies view of me and how that view effects me and my confidence, and literally why my ex, an AS male was so comforting to me. Communication is vague, subtle, chemical, complex. A person that you don't have to work so hard to translate too, brings happiness. A person that accepts and even understands, who doesn't weight you in terms of a heirachry of life. Your worth isn't measured by title, money, or the mask that one presents the world with. Love from honesty and acceptance. So I looked beyond the dialogue, the functioning ability and looked at the concept. anyway generally although it upset me it also was beautiful in it's honesty. The problem is really that NT people look for a mold. OK like AS is a computer program and all people with AS are like this. The problem is that people have no imagination. WE don't simply run program. Personality and the adherence to a patterened way of doing everything (that is the NT construct) I feel AS is more pragmatic, we take in information to process life. They don't allow information to penetrate their preconcieved notions, and that is the danger. Inability of independant thought. I hope I have managed to get accross what I am thinking but if not please ask!! mimi
Guest guest
Hi All, I just watched Mozart and the Whale, which is a movie about an Aspie relationship. It is On Demand under movies. I have to say, I started crying about 30 secs into the movie and couldn't stop even when it was over. It is very well done and a great story. I was praying the whole time I was watching it, please God let this end well or I am going to lose it. I won't give it but I would recommend seeing it when you have time. My son is not like the blatant traits they portrayed in the movie, which is why my son is falling through the cracks. I am gearing up for an IEP meeting that is causing me lots of stress. What do you do when your child is too high functioning for the high functioning class but cant learn very effectively in the large regular class? Private school? Guest guest
I so agree and would like to know what to do as well. My son is just like yours and the school and I are at war because I dare to not bend to their " educated " guesses. Do any of the teachers/administrators actually think they could walk in my shoes much less my son's for even 12 hours. I THINK NOT! I just get so sick of the whole thing. The worst part is my son is the highestfunctioning of the 3 in his class and so he gets the least aide time and the most demands. GRRRR! Guest guest
I tried to find it On Demand (we have Timer Warner cable) and couldn't find it anywhere. Should I look in a specific category there? Guest guest
Do you have a " search " section with your cable? That's how I found it on ours.
