Well I have Googled OCD and I do not see this with Jake. I put the

Asperger's and OCD criteria side by side and marked off what he does and such.

ONE

thing with OCD, which is a preoccupation with numbers that he repeats but not

the same number. Just a facination with an entire subject but not repetitive

at all, like math equations, animal facts, etc.

He is not repetitive, he could care less about things being orderly, he

doesn't wash all the time.

GGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Jake has none of those compulsions. Man, your poor guy!

I don't see the anxiety, I see the hyper-happy or the downright devil when

he has a meltdown, but no compulsions whatsoever.

He's a happy, loving, smart kid on hyper speed, except for the over

stimulation and inevitable meltdowns.

He is fascinated by animals and numbers, he knows facts and figures to the

point it gets annoying, but it is not repetitive as in the same thing over and

over . That word " repetitive " just gets to me, it doesn't fit at all.

My son was dx with OCD at age 2. He was really AS, but this therapist insisted

that he was OCD because he put his hands over his ears so often during the day.

So now at age 7, the OCD dx has been thrown out & AS is what he is considered to

have now. I'm not trying to confuse you, but wanted to share how OCD & AS have

been mixed up by professionals with my child. My son is pretty loving too.

Sorry I don't know about the medicines.

other than he is a very loving child.

We went to the next step therapist today and now have a dx of not Asperger's

but ADHD and OCD.

Okay OCD I just don't see it. He is repetitve on facts and figures but not

the same thing over and over again. He doesn't have things that he

physically does over and over (washing hands), he just spouts off numbers,

animal

facts, etc.

I was given the criteria for Asperger's last visit and it is so identical to

him, other than he is an affectionate and loving child. That was the only

thing that didn't fit the Asperger's dx.

He has horrible meltdowns when overstimulated also and has a HORRIBLE raging

temper when provoked.

So now, he is taking Straterra and Abilify. I have never heard of Abilify.

Abilify is for bi-polar and schizophrenia, but it is a very low dose so the

therapist said it is basically just to even the mood swings out.

Anybody on this Abilify? What about this OCD dx vs Asperger's? I was not

happy today when he said OCD and not Asperger's...I know that's weird. LOL!

Hi Tracey, even some " professionals " don't quite understand

Aspergers/autism or OCD!

With OCD Jake would be feeling anxiety. With Aspergers he won't. At

least with some of those behaviors that are so similar between the

two.

My 17 y/o son has OCD and Aspergers. Even the people who diagnosed

him told me, at the time, to stop thinking of his behaviors as OCD.

Well...since he hated (to the point of tears) doing his compulsions

and a lot of them he *had* to do or " something bad would happen to

him " and he *had* to get a " just right " feeling or repeat it....THAT

was OCD, the regular/typical kind, not a part of his Aspergers.

Just my thoughts, email me anytime if they keep pressing the OCD

theory and you want more info. 's OCD appeared in 6th grade,

he's a senior now so I've been " around it " for a few years now!

First you need genetic to role out other disorders and

then see a neuropsycologust sorry bad spelling a

doctor that dose not understand autism spectrum

disorder will say ocd, adhd.Genetic then diagnosis of

asperger's that's what i did all my life i thought i

was adhd,ocd.bipolor.with genetic it proved i was not

adhd,ocd.or bi-polor but jacob's syndrome and pdd-nos

final after 36 years of the wrong help now aba and a

better life plus did you know that sleep apnea in

chidren looks like adhd and will cause the same

problems in school too tom-g
