Guest guest
My 10 year old is interested in History and sports cards. My older son went through alot of different interests, but now at 16 his only interest is music but he doesn't really collect anything related to it other than drum sticks and ticket stubs. Guest guest
My AS son was completely into the Tank Engine/trains -- until he saw the Disney/Pixar movie - Cars -- now that's all he thinks about. He still likes trains - but cars is his passion. > > I am trying to get my son " into " something but not sure what. Guest guest
I am new to posting to this site, but I have been reading for quite awhile. My (HFAS) son just turned 6 today and he is into Space. Or should I say " obsessed " with it?? Anything to do w/ the moon, planets, stars, asteroids, black holes....it is almost all he talks or thinks about. It is actually frightening how much he knows....way more than my husband and I put together (and then x 100)!! (-: When he was two I would get up in the middle of the night and find him standing at his bedroom window staring out at the moon. As a matter of fact, " moon " was one of the first words he ever spoke. -Kara --- tcstallard <tonya.stallard@...> wrote: > I am trying to get my son " into " something but not > sure what. Guest guest
playing cards morphed into baseball cards morphed into pokemon, then yugi-oh and now he is into magic cards. But there was always that " card " theme happening. On a funny note, when the doctor first suggested autism, I panicked and wanted to believe it was NOT autism. I got a book about autism and it said that kids with autism liked playing cards. I don't recall what book but I remember throwing away every single playing card in the house (he had a huge collection!) and was feeling relieved when my dh came home, assessed the situation and said a bit sarcastically, " Whew, now he's not autistic anymore. " LOL. So I got over that and he's had his card collection ever since. (Can't blame a hysterical mother for trying, can you?) He also has collected coins as well. He has many from various countries. We get him those coin folders you can buy rather cheaply at Walmart or Kmart stores - like " State Quarters " . And inside is a slot for each of the new state quarters. He loves stuff like that. My other ds with HFA doesn't collect anything. He has an obsessive interest in cars (mostly new model corvettes.) He likes getting the large photo books that have pictures and factoids in them. Mostly so he can tell me all about the cars he sees on the road. Roxanna ( ) POLL: What kind of hobby does your AS child have? I am trying to get my son " into " something but not sure what. Guest guest
My son, (8), doesn't really collect anything. But he does keep all his lego creations for a long time. He is really interested in space and the only thing he wrote Santa for was a telescope and a medium sized golf glove. He also likes maps and books about the world. He is filled with little interesting facts that come out when he pleases. But if I ask him.... I may not get an answer at all. Gotta love it. Also, my son refuses to go see Santa this yr. because he wrote him a letter. He doesn't need to waste Santa's time.

Guest guest
Oh yes I know all about the Pokemon thing. When my now 10 yo aspie was 2 it was all he was interested in. He would put on a " play " imitating them all (151 at the time) and he'd get upset if you named one for him to do that he'd already done. He'd say " I already did that one, say this one " It amazed me how he could keep track of 151 imitations and know which ones he'd done and not done!!! He also used to collect rocks. I would find boxes full of regular rocks he had just picked up from our driveway or yard and he would get upset when I'd put them back outside. Now it's video games, yugio cards, bionicles and just recently he has finally started to like reading (found out that's almost all he does in class). I think he would still like to collect rocks, he likes fake stones that are smooth but I constantly have to tell him to get it out of his mouth so maybe that wouldn't be the best thing for him to collect !!LOL!!-- Alisha 9732@... wrote: My 8 yr old ds absolutely eats and breathes Pokemon. Guest guest
Well I'm glad to see that my 8 yr old DS is not the only one obsessed with . He has loved since he was 2. He knows all of their names and goes on to the website. He is into Lego Bionicles now and loves to put them together. Another new passion of his is to draw. He reads " Captain Underpants " books and loves to draw the robots. Science has always been his favorite subject. It's funny how we as parents see these obsessions and think we are the only ones. This group has helped me see that I am not alone and neither is Elijah. :-) __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I have a cousin that might be autistic or at least on the spectrum, somewhere. He's about 55, but tests in his early 30s. He lives alone, but there are several areas that need monitoring. Ever since he was about 20, testing at about 10, he was a chess wiz. He instinctively knows every chess move you can make, and even back then he could checkmate almost anyone in less than 10 moves. He got so good that he had to develop his own strategy just to keep the game going. ( ) POLL: What kind of hobby does your AS child have? Guest guest
You're not alone! My 12 year old is still obsessed with . Every gift he is getting is related. I figure there is worse things he could be involved with so we've used it as a teaching opportunity. Right now we're working on feelings and how your actions affect others. Guest guest
My son doesn't collect anything really but as he is only 6 and not at school yet I think it's more that he doesn't really think of collecting things. He is however more than obsessed with computer and video games. He moves from on to the other, the xbox to the computer and back again. He'd spend all day there if we let him and it seems to really calm him when he is over emotional. Beck j ( ) POLL: What kind of hobby does your AS child have? Guest guest
My 6 year old is NASCAR cars and books/magazines on NASCAR, Dinosaurs, and Kinects/Legos. he went through the the tank engine stage, but that one is mostly done now. He still likes them, but talking about them and even playing with them is becoming less and less frequent. Though I think we are on the very of the Star Wars obsession. But he still tells everyone that hes going to be an architect and a palentologist (i cant even spell it.) Floored his doctor with that one. Re: ( ) POLL: What kind of hobby does your AS child have? Guest guest
My son was into big time when he was 3. Then it was Spiderman, Bionicles... different one each year. Made it easy planning his b-day parties. Now that he's 9 he is currently into this Penguin game on the internet. Guest guest
My 18 year olds are into warhammer figures. They are metal figures they can paint and go to tournaments play others (probably other aspies) and win money (haven't done that yet). But they have to paint each figure and will eventually have to make a board with hills and trees etc to take to tournaments. At least this takes them off the computer some so that they can paint their figures. And now we ordered them some clay were they can make shields and things for their soldiers and make them unique... We'll see if they ever make it to a tournament... Which would be a major improvement to get them out of the house and socializing with other people although I bet alot of people into warhammer are on the spectrum...
