Guest guest
Hi all. My son’s class is out on a 3 day overnight trip to 2 local villages and a park area. He didn’t want to sleep over which is fair enough. However, today, I was helping chaperone his class (a boy needed help due to a bad heart so I pushed him in a wheelchair), (my son is in main stream school and he is 9). I watched my son be with me and have a lovely day with me and this other boy because it was only 3 of us. Then, when the group got back with us, he just didn’t mix and played on the perimeter of the group talking to himself. Of course, this upsets me. Other parents are there and they have the “normal” kids in the class. I think his teacher was disappointed that he wasn’t going on the nightwalk later tonight. My son just doesn’t like groups or was it a bad factor that I was around also? His behaviour is classic autistic stuff I have seen with other kids on the spectrum. Should a school want to make AS kids be in a group???? I just want to forget the whole outing to be honest. What do you think? Is it a better thing to make him go???? A parent said he did well on the Hampton Court trip so maybe it’s my being there that is too disruptive….. In any case, it breaks my heart to see him not engage with anyone…… Patty UK
