Now that he's enrolled and they have all

his funding they are saying that there is no speech therapist

available and we'll have to pay privately, $70 a session.

I did not read the entire part of this post so please forgive me if my

answer does not jive with the original question, however based on the statement

above and the response that your son is in a public school, the school is

mandated to provide the related services for your child if it was found thru the

assessments that he qualifies for this service. If the school does not have

the personnel to fullfill the service then they must contract out the service.

THEY must pay the $70.00 a session for your child if and until they have a

speech therapist on staff who can fullfill the needs and only if that person

is qualified. So my answer to them in writing would be " Thank you for

advising me of the lack of qualified personnel to provided the speech therapy

for

my child. Since there is no speech therapist available to provide the service

then I will be asking the district to fund the services thru my child's

private speech therapist. The name is listed below. " I will be commencing

services on (Fill in the date) and will expect the district to fund this

service in

addition to any compensatory services that he has missed due to lack of

personnel available. "

Sincerely,

Smart Mom...

It is really that simple. They are mandated to provide the services. Lack

of personnel does not excuse the responsibility of providing the service to

your child.
