I wish there was a way to avoid the end of a school year. My son is again or

still having trouble on the bus and the principle and his teacher just don't

get it so I am on a roll.

I just finished a letter for an FBA to be done by someone trained in ASD.

The principle thinks he should be able to just plain control everything he

does and that it is not AS that is behind his actions. So guess we'll see.

Also the bus...ARGH!!!! Well just finished a letter requesting alternative

transportation for him. He hit two kids on monday after one shoved him

because he wanted to sit with my son and the girl who were already in the

seat. And the second was a little girl that kept tapping him on the shoulder

and then would say " it wasn't me " when he would turn around. He asked her

to stop but you know little girls think they are cute, I know I have several

The director of special services says our school system can handle his AS,

well guess I'm going to push the card next week at the IEP review. I am

going to request he go to a different elementary school within the district

and be placed in the DH program. If not then I'm going to request

transportation to a school across town for kids with AS.(Summit Academy).

Should be interesting because I know he wants to keep the money in our

district. I really feel that the principle just doesn't want to deal with

his special needs anymore. And his teacher is done with him, she says she

has tried everything and is exhausted, well I know what she means, but too

bad.

He is not allowed to go to the Cleveland Indians game tomorrow because he

ran out of the school last week and because of the hitting Monday on the bus

He has a wrap around who says there are a couple other boys in the class

who are behavior problems but the teacher tends to focus solely on my son.

So,I'm angry to say the least and if need be I'll take it to the

superintendent, and I'm ready to call Legal rights.

Thanks for listening again.

Hi Suzanne,

I know how you feel. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I

don't know what it is about the educators around here but they are so

apathetic. Plus, they are so used to the status quo around here they

honestly do not see how many problems their schools have and how

problematic their dismissive attitude is. It is so frustrating and

infuriating. I hope you get the alternative bussing. My son is also

having a huge issue with bussing. He has all year really but since the

switch to the ED class and new bus he has been bullied incessantly on

the bus and in class. I emailed his teacher about it but she was

amazingly dismissive. Oh and good luck with the FBA. My school

completely removed my sons after I requested they update it and then

blithely told me " an IEP is more legal than an FBA " . Talk about you

ignorant statements. Anyway, I have personally given up on this school

system. In order to get my son the proper services in the proper

environment I would have to put up a monumental fight. Considering all

the effort I went through just to get his IEP updated only to have them

strip it. Considering how many countless times they have broken the law

by not honoring his IEP. Considering how many times they have physically

restrained him and put him into their " quiet room " .... I see now that

these schools are so hopelessly broken and fundamentally flawed that it

would take years to get things right and my son does not have that kind

of time. I have decided to try Summit Academies. I have all the papers

filled out. I am taking in the MFE/IEP request to school tomorrow and

that will formally inform them of my intentions. Next week I am

registering him for school next year. At this point, ANYTHING would be

better than these schools. Plus, they do have the martial arts classes,

a great nature program and a Boy Scout troop for our kids so I think

that and just being around more kids like him will be a big help. I can

supplement his education if needed but I think the most vital thing

right now is that he is in the most supportive and positive environment

regardless of how well they actually teach.

Anyway, whichever option you choose, I really hope it works out for the

best for your son. I also hope your school grows some common sense and

understanding and starts to work with you and stops working against you.

Good luck and best wishes,

Tabitha

P.S. If you end up choosing Summit, let me know. Our kids would be

going to school together and we would most likely run into each other

next year.

Hi Suzanne,

sounds like the teacher, children & principle all are making your son a

" target " . That is so sad! You sound like you know what you need to do to

straighten things out. (good for you)

As far as your sons teacher saying she is exhausted. " She chose that job, to

be a teacher " If she's exhausted, she needs a classroom aid to help out.

As far as the bus ride. Of course, the school doesn't want to spend their

money on a bus aid, would an older child, (high school student) like a big

buddy, be an option? His big buddy can work like a " shadow " ?, and can help

explain, what happened on the bus. Also can prevent an ugle situation from

starting.

contradiction:::: special services saying. (school) they can handle AS. Then

why is there a problem??? Good luck, I hope things work out for your son & you.
