Hi Christie,

Connie T. here my son took Respirdal for about 5yrs. along with

effexor, and topamax. I have to say Respirdal is very good at

decreasing the meltdowns....it seems to enable them to think clearer.

Now the only caution I would watch for are usually facial ticks with

higher does. My son developed this when he was up to 3mg. a day. we

decreased it down to 2mg. a day, and the ticks went away. Now if you

allow the ticks to con't for a period of time (couple months maybe

ck. with your pharmacist), the ticks become permanent, so I'm told.

The other unpleasant thing about Respirdal is the wt. gain. My son is

only 5'5 " and his wt. leveled at l85#. Now that he has been off

Respirdal for about 2yrs. now he's able to manage his wt. to about

150 to 160, so that's not too bad. When he comes home from college he

loses the wt. When he goes back he puts on ten pds. He eats out too

much. I don't use fast food at our house. But he's on his own, and

has to manage everything his self. At this point he seems to be doing

just fine. The only med he is taking at this point is effexor once a

day, and he feels he'll be able to come off that too. Seeing they no

longer list him as aspergers/ocd/ they feel he has worked thru the AS

dx., but they still dx. him with axienty.

Hope this helps.

connie T.
