My son Noah, who is just about 6, has been taking Adderall XR for over a year

now, and has not shown any ticks from that.

( ) Question about Adderall

My 12 year Asperger son was diangosed with ADHD last spring. They put

him on Adderall (5mg) and it has really seemed to help him focus. He

was on it all summer (with weekends off) and now all fall. He just

started this blinking thing which I think is a tick of some kind. It

is not all the time, but I will look over at him and he will do a

couple of quick blinks. We went to the doctor who seemed to dismiss

it as having dry eyes. I think it is getting worse. Does anyone have

any experience with this?

Thanks

Well, it would concern me. It could be a tic. Is your doctor a specialist of

any sort? Like a neurologist? I think I would check in with a specialist -

neurologist or development ped. We usually look for the closest Children's

hospital and find good doctors that way. Some kids with AS also have TS

(tourettes). I am always afraid that medication will cause tics in my 10 yo but

yet, he needs help with his anxiety level. If you find a good med doc, he/she

can answer your questions and find out what is going on. But I personally would

put a lot of weight on a mother's observations - if you think there is something

going on, go find answers.

Hello

I have been off line a bit (travel and being sick) but I can say, at

37 I have been on Adderall. IT helps me get things done, find lost

things, stay focused, all that good stuff.

I have A.S. but I haven't had any problems with Tics or anything.

My 13 year old has tics A LOT, and, though stress can make it worse,

I think age could be a factor, too.

He isn't on any medication.

Perhaps it is different for kids, however, on the medication.

It is a good subject to research.

I would definitely ask some medical 'experts' to see what you can

come up with. I also would love to hear what you find out.

I will certainly be looking on my end, but it may take a while for

me. With 3 Aspies, and an Aspie myself, life is hectic:)

  • 4 weeks later...

After my 8 yo son (at the time) started taking Adderal last spring,

I thought I noticed him blinking more as well. My husband said he

didn't notice it & brushed it off. We took him off of it for the

summer & restarted this fall with school. I don't notice the

blinking now, but he is grimacing more. Even his teacher noticed it.

It's frustrating because his grades have been higher this year. It

really does help him focus. We will probably have to switch him to

something else.

My son is 13, and he has had these issues for a while. They are

contstantly changing (Grunts, sounds, eyes flick, etc.) but I am on

Adderral Not him. *Grin*

I don't get this, but we both have A.S.

So he does have the tics but not the med's.

I thought perhaps it has to do with age, but I would ask the doctor

what he thinks ;-)

Hope this helps.
