Guest guest
i saw the episode of ER last night with my 28yr old dau with asperger's. I recognized that the girl had aspy tendencies until she took her clothes off. My dau was so embarassed. " Now, I don't want to tell anyone, that i have it, They'll think I do that, too. " Why do tv shows have to exagerate so?? --------------------------------- We have the perfect Group for you. Check out the handy changes to . Guest guest
I did not see the episode of ER... will have to look for the rerun. Just thought I'd post that All My Children (yes, a daytime soap) has a character with " Autism Spectrum Disorder " . I don't catch the show often but this character is a regular/recurring role. She is a young adult and that is how the writers have scripted her, so say she has " Autism Spectrum Disorder " . Not too sure how I think about that. But you are right, either the shows/movies are sensationalized (remember Mercury Rising with Bruce Willis?) or exaggerated (as mentioned). I still think the best TV/movie job ever done was a series back in the '80s (telling my age) about a family with a down syndrome son... can't remember the name of the show but the son's name was Corky. Anyone remember that? > > i saw the episode of ER last night with my 28yr old dau with asperger's. I recognized that the girl had aspy tendencies until she took her clothes off. Guest guest
Yes I do remember that! The show was " Life Goes on " . I watched it faithfully every week and I agree that they did a fantastic job with portraying the special needs aspect of the character Corky. I wish more TV was better about that, but I do think it's a good thing that there is more awareness out there. > > > > i saw the episode of ER last night with my 28yr old dau with > asperger's. Guest guest
I saw that episdoe. When they started off showing her, I was thinking, OH GOD, here we go. This has got to be something that will end up mentioning Aspergers. She just has too many 'me' things she was doing. Then they mentioned the 'developmental dis' and the guy had NO idea. (isn't that great. I am just an ED tech, I don't get what is going on!) But then, when she took her clothing off, I said, " OOPS. That is SO NOT ME! " oK, WHAT WAS UP with that? I may talk on and on and bore a few people, and not make much sense, but I don't strip my clothing off. Not as an adult anyways. *Grin* Ok, it was for the show, I bet. Just to add something. At least they didn't 'say' A.S. though I think it was implied *smiles* lisa > > > i saw the episode of ER last night with my 28yr old > > dau with asperger's.
