Guest guest
So it's just a general category that they lump everyone into because it's easier that way than to help the children individually? That is truly pathetic!! Guest guest
How old is your son? This sounds a lot like the issues that I have with my son. Although he doesn't have a lot of friends, he has a few. His friends are mostly through Scouts. But I have a lot of issues with him regarding respectfulness, and limits and just not obeying my rules, and also not taking responsibility for himself. It is very difficult. I am new to all of this and I am trying to gather all of the information that I can. I am hoping to find someone who is going through the basic issues that I am so that we can share ideas. My son is very tricky, because he does not present as classically Asperger's. He has lots of friends, but I do question what he gets out of the friendships. He is very isolative at home. He is intereseted in music and this is the forum where he makes his friends. They have been long standing relationships. He is very difficult to deal with at home in regards to limit setting, respectfulness and being responsible for himself. Pam
Guest guest
Pam It truly fascinate me how Asperger loved ones are very similar. 's friends have been and are often through his ability to download music.........sometimes I wonder how much they care about him too, because he will spend hours searching music for a friend. He very much has perseveration problems and executive function/tasks and organizing problems and some (not so fun) hygiene issues from oily hair to yuck ........ these are all very much classic Asperger (I have read Dr. Tony Attwood, Kansas Univ Dr. Myles, Yale Ami Klin, UCLA Dr. Lovaas and so many others). He has thousands of songs on many computer drives of many genre. He also loves art, computers, computer games and graphic design (art and computer combined ..... :>) I relate. I will try to gather my next post to you with a summary of how to develop social skills from a Winner book. Her book emphasizes that relationships (exist over time and require continuous effort) should be our higher focus and not just interactive moments. I post on other Dallas Texas groups, especially DANISH (Dallas Asperger Network for Information, Support and Help) where we local families talk openly about issues. You are welcome to join this very open/supportive group. Mark > > Mark I would be interested in any suggestions you may have. Guest guest
Pam, This woman has a practice in San California, but she travels the United States and other nations extensively. She is well-respected by all professionals. Her books are very insightful and crisp in detail. She is a great speaker. IMHO, you should make every effort to go. If you have never read her work or heard her speak, I think you are going to be stunned at what she has documented in her years with work with HFA/Autism/Asperger and all learning disability children. She even highly recommends working with young adults. I just wish I could live near her area and practice. I may who knows if I find that wad of money........the rainbow. Can you please say what city you live in? I would like to check her workshop schedule. Here is what I found on her website. Is this it? Guest guest
Is receiving no services appropriate for your son? It is not typical to qualify for an IEP and receive no services since receiving services is the point for having an IEP. But having been down the high school road, I know at ours, the idea that kids need services was really foreign to them. Well, even including parents in the discussion was not something they do a lot of! If he needs help, push some buttons! Roxanna Re: ( ) I'm new and DOES IT GET BETTER Hi my son got diagnose with Asd last year, and Milwaukee Public School put him under OHI , and also has under autism too. OHI is first . He gets no services . He is in high school. Donna Rabe (mother ) mark colditz <markdebc@...> wrote: Why does the school come up with OHI? I do not understand this. Is it some general category?
