I can not seem to get him healthy. For about a month now we have been fighting something. First he had coughing, runny nose and sneezing a lot. Then he had the whole stomach bug thing. Now, he's coughing again and has the runny nose again. He's coughing sooo hard that it's making him gag and almost throw up. He'll also make a sound like he can't breath while he is coughing. You know the sound you make when you haven't had air in a while and your taking a deep breath to get one. I'm

Guest guest
Have they tested him for asthma and allergies. My son Jordan has both. At a very young age Jordan would get a clear runny nose that within days would lead to a full out respirtory infection. He is now 7 and has been taking singular daily. He still gets sick but it is far and few between. Have they tried him on a nebulizer to break up the cough. I know that helped Jordan allot. Now though Jordan hasn't needed the nebulizer with the singular since almost two years ago. Hope this helps. Guest guest
He wasn't formally tested for allergies, but a ped put him on Clariton for his allergies. Even as a baby when we'd take outside he'd immediatly get the clear runny nose. They haven't tested him for asthma cause he only makes the breathing sound when he's really sick. Guest guest
Sounds like might have the croup. That's the nasty, wheezing cough where it sounds like they can't get their breath. I also think the child sounds like a seal barking when they cough. I wouldn't wait to get him into his doctor for the cough. Croup can be very dangerous and life threatening if the wind pipe gets too swollen. My son had the croup really bad when he was 6 months old and was hospitalized for 5 days. I would call his doctor. Does he have a fever? Most cases of croup, the child has a fever. > > I am really starting to get worried about . I can not seem to get him healthy. My other news is that the local Child Study Center called today and set up an appointment time for him to be evaluated. He goes February 7th at 9:00 in the morning. He'll have to go back 4 weeks later for a follow up and that one will be on March 8th at > 11:40 a.m. He will be seeing a Pediatric Nurse Practitionar. I was told though that the NP could make a diagnoses and if she felt that we needed to see someone else she would make that appointment for us as well. I'm nervous, but at the same time, I'm glad that it is only a month and a half wait. I have saw posts were some of you have had to wait a lot longer than that, and to be honest, that's what i was expecting. Well, I just wanted to share a little update with you all. Guest guest
Hello Leighanne, I am sorry to see is sick, and pray he gets well soon. I know how hard it is when our little ones are sick. My son is older now, Marty, is age 41 and he has been sick for a few weeks with coughing, etc. The doctor put him on Zithromax and it seems to have cleared up a lot of it. He has had a hard life due to his disability and has a harder time coughing up secretions the doc said, has cerebral palsy now from all his seizures over the years. Anyway just want you to know I am praying for you, and my heart goes out to you, and to all the mothers here with your children. I hope I can be an encouragement to you. I know it is hard, but the Lord loves you, and He will help you as you call upon Him. He has such tender mercy and love for us, and for our children, in spite of all the hard things we must go through. Without Him in my life I could not endure any of this at all. Lots of love, Carolyn in Oregon is sick AGAIN and we have a date for the Dev Ped finally. I am really starting to get worried about . I can not seem to get him healthy. Guest guest
He has been running a fever, but the thermomater I have is a real POS so I can't tell you the exact temp. I have a doctors appointment scheduled for him for Friday morning. I'll be sure to let you all know what they say. Guest guest
Leanne, My son Jordan was exactly the same. When he got sick is when it would act up. He would be put on Nebulizer treatments at that point. After 5 times of us going that route he was put on singular. If he has been on claritan awhile his body could have gotten used to it and it is no longer effective. He made need a change of allergy medication. Take care. Guest guest
Oh yes, croup is bad! I can remember once long ago my son Marty had the croup. It was just this terrible wheezing sound. There are two kinds I learned, one you put them in the bathroom and turn on the shower full blast as hot as it goes until it steams, and this helps the child breath better. The other is an emergency and you rush them to the hospital ER. And you don't know the difference either. So I would steam them, and then rush them for a doctor's opinion. My son had something a few years ago that was bad also. He woke up one morning with very noisy breathing. So we gave him a quick bath and dressed him, and took him to the hospital ER. There they looked and listened, and said to give Tylenol, take him home. So we took him, I crushed the Tylenol for him and he could not swallow it. Then I had to go out and do some important errands, you are not going to believe this but I had to pick up my ex-husbands creamains up at the mortuary. He had died a few days before. So when I got back home, Marty was really bad, his face was red, the yellow Tylenol pill was dribbling down his chin, and he was wheezing and could hardly breath. So I called an ambulance and they came and took him back to the hospital. This was about 4:30 in the afternoon. So there he was all day in ER with them trying to diagnose him, he had lung ex-rays etc., and it was so stupid because it was obvious from his symptoms what he had. They call it "strident breathing" and he had epiglotitis!!! This is a life threatening thing, the epiglottis in the back of the throat was swollen from strep infection, and it could have went into a spasm and shut his airway completely and he would have died. It took them till 10:30 that night to figure it out when a throat specialist came in! She stuck a thing down his throat and said, "Oh my, it is very swollen, we will have to intubate him." Aaaaaaaaaa! Just thinking about it makes me nuts. So they took him upstairs to the OR, and intubated him, then he went to Intensive Care, was sedated for a week while he was on the most powerful intravenous antibiotic they had called Vancamyacin, and they waited for the swelling to go down so they could extubate him. Well it went down, they took the tube out, and then he still couldn't breath, so he had to get a tracheotomy. And he couldn't eat so he had to get a food tube put into his stomach, from the outside, they made a hole. So one hole to breath, and one hole to eat. Anyway about four weeks later we took him home, he still has the food tube, and we didn't get the trach out for nine months. So I watch him like a hawk anytime I hear a little noise in his throat. In Jan. this year, almost a year ago, he had pneumonia and they didn't catch it at the ER, three visits again, until it got so bad he had to have lung surgery!! And tubes to drain it, this time he was on two different intravenous antibiotics. The Lord gave him miracles two times here to spare his life, and I am so grateful! Halleluiah! Please take your kids to the doctor when they need it, and if they don't fix him or her, take them back as many times as you have to!
