Guest guest
For issues like spelling and homework, the IEP can have accomodations--and should have, just as for the classroom and every other aspect of his day. One accomdation we had was my ds missed a spelling word, the teacher would ask him to spell it verbally. He then had two chances, and she would write how he spelled it. This helped and he was able to drop this accomodation after his spelling improved. The other one it that they give him class notes so he doesn't have to write every class lecture (6th grader now). Taping can be another one. One that we still use is he dictates his answers and I or one of his friends writes the answers on paper/wksheet. We also read to him--his friends pitch in when they are around. Books on tape or CD are wonderful --his teacher has no problem with any of this--thank goodness for a better set of teachers than the last go round. The teacher makes or breaks the year. We have had only a couple until this year that have been willing to go the extra mile. Having more than one teacher helps too. Request some accomodations and if they work yeah!!~! If they don't then revise the IEP.
