Guest guest
Hi, My name is Wendee. I am in California, and I have five children. I have been homeschooling for 7 years. My children are 24, 12 , 10, 5, and 4. The oldest two girls and the three youngest boys. I had suspected my son, Connor, (age 10) had ADD for a long time but didn't want to put him on medication so I never discussed it with his doctor until about a year and a half ago. He has done much better on medication. His biggest issue is meltdowns, which are much improved on the medication. His pediatrician suspected Asperger's. I did some research and thought it sounded right in many areas. However, the initial psychiatrist we went to said no. Anyway, last week at the psychiatrist we have been seeing for about a year told me that he thinks Connor has Asperger's and wants to put him on meds (like Prozac). And this was not from my bringing it up but from the doctor's interactions with Connor once every three months for a little over a year. I am hoping to find out more about Asperger's, the best books to read (there are a lot of books out there!), help with determining if he does have Asperger's, good websites, how to best homeschool, discipline, interact with him, and support. I would like to hear from parents of children that do have Asperger's. I know that books don't always describe actual children. I am looking forward to joining the list and learning more about Asperger's . Blessings, Wendee
