Guest guest
Jaya, My son had a CWU in January 05. The doc told us he must wear earplugs to swim and bathe. Our ENT did tubes before the ctoma was found, he said that with tubes, keep bathwater out of his ears, but chlorinated pool water would be OK. From what I understand, the water creates a nice damp place for infection to grow so keeping the ear dry is important. The doc said he could swim, just with earplugs. So I think your son could still swim if he agreed to earplugs. My son is 4 so it can be a challenge with the earplugs. I also plan on getting him a neoprene band to wear over the plugs, helps keep them in his ears and also helps keep water out. Now, I know that isn't much of a fashion statement for a kid, but if your son wants to swim I would say at least set him up with ear plugs. I talked to my son's speech therapist, his office also does hearing and audiology so I am setting him up with an appt to get customs made. I have the names of 2 different companies that make them www.Earinc.com and www.westone.com . I was told a set of them would cost about $90. These websites offer a lot of different earplugs and also the neoprene bands. I haven't used either company yet, so I don't know how good they are, I just found them by chance! There are audiologists in my area that use both of these companies for earplugs.
