Guest guest
just curious but what happens if you get a dog for emotional support (like autism, etc) and you go on trips? What happens with the dog? (can he fly and where and how) I was thinking, if my husband leaves me, I would benefit greatly from one of these dogs. My cats probably would hate it. *grin* B > > This is very upsetting. I volunteer with a dog rescue group. Please > realize that not all are this prejudice and neurotic. Guest guest
emotional support dogs can't fly or have access like SERVICE dogs.Service dogs can go anywhere the public can go except churches and zoos, I believe.Emotional support dogs do have access to housing that don't allow pets but they can't go " out " in public like SD's.http://http://www.psychiatricservicedogs.org/home Toni and Wa-hya http://www.dogster.com/?370577 ( ) (DOGS )How do you deal with prejudice? just curious but what happens if you get a dog for emotional support (like autism, etc) and you go on trips? Guest guest
You best bet is to teach it some behaviors that also help your child, and get the dog registered as a service dog. Only service dogs can go everywhere. Depending on the type of 'emotional support' the dog is providing for you or your child, it might not be far off from a service dog. AS/Autistic service dog can do things like: paw you to break a fixation, help stop a meltdown, by learning the behavior to squeeze the dog. Provide help by leading and lending a focus in area that you may have problems - ie. high noise (like a shopping mall) or in crowds. If the dog helps you function in society, where you would have problems before, then you can check into what it would take to have it certified as a service dog. 1st step is to get your Dr to prescribe one. Guest guest
I didn't see the original post on this, but it reminded me of an episode of " The Dog Whisperer " where there was a woman that had agoraphobia and panic attacks and she had an emotional support service dog. It was very interesting. I didn't even know they existed. It was really nice to see dogs being used in that way. J. --------------------------------- Stay in the know. Pulse on the new .com.
