Guest guest
Way to go and Mom!!! Big Hugs to all! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Hall Melinda Sent: Tuesday, May 09, 2006 6:34 PM Aspergers Treatment Subject: ( ) OMG! I wish you could read this IEP!!!!! I am about to fall over dead! I cannot believe the rough draft I got today for ! I feel as if I have started all over again!!! I wish you all could read this " glowing " IEP!!!!! I've had some really depressing IEP's-especially in the PLOP area. This one is full of glowing reports. still has problems with written language, but there is a great improvement in just about everything since elementary. I didn't think I'd ever read such a great IEP! And on top of it, the case manager recommends an advanced diploma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in TOTAL shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has left a lot of questions for me to answer!!! She has placed sticky notes all over the IEP draft where I need to think about changes. She's left me notes where I need to come up with answers to questions and again, think about what I think about that particular part of the IEP! I've never had one like that! So I can be thinking ahead of time and know what really needs to be addressed during the IEP meeting. The case manager is going to call me tomorrow to discuss the draft in case I have any questions! So, I can say from experience, that I never thought I'd have such a wonderful IEP draft! Or that he would have such a glowing IEP!!!! We are down to 4 accomodations, and she said one wasn't even used this year and wanted my thoughts on removing it. So I am so excited! He'll be a freshman next year. Same school, so transition won't be a problem until the following year. He has had a great team of teachers this year. They are so into the students. There's been talk of states with good education for autism. I wouldn't recommend our school system, but I would highly recommend the team of teachers 's had this year. They have been so great!!!!!!!! They have helped him become very independent. One of the teachers was quoted in the IEP as saying that " sets a positive example for others, and diligent. " So there is hope for all our of our kids. I never would have thought I'd see what I have in this IEP! Melinda
Guest guest
Congrats! I am happy for you and your son. I on the other hand recieve paperwork today that they did the IEP without me. And I immediately went to the school. My was horriable and for them to do this without including me is unforgivable. Hall Melinda <mlndhall@...> wrote: I am about to fall over dead! Jackie, LOL! I went back and read what I'd posted afterward and boy were you right! One would almost think that the key on the keyboard got stuck! LOL! > > Keep up the good work--all of you. The ironic thing is that I haven't had to do much work this year. It's all been taken care of at school! I have had very little come home that I needed to help him with. The case manager emailed me with all the work assignments that were due, and all I had to do was ask if he'd done them. And that wasn't very often that I had to ask. His IEP even mentions that his math, English and Civics homework were turned in on time all year. It even stated that his work was completed 100% in math (pre-algebra), and that he was now helping the other students with their work! Imagine that! Thanks for the reply! I am still in shock from it all! Melinda

Guest guest
Amazing what an effective team & plan can do for our kids! Way to go!!! One word of caution, don't reduce his supports as he's transitioning into high school...They tried this when my son went to the middle school " He's doing so well, he doesn't need any of these anymore " Well, the first month was hell, and by the time we got the IEP reconveined, he was suspended from both bus and school. When they recommended reductions again this year (as he's going to high school next year) I reminded his super team of what had happend going to the middle school, and they agreed that we'd be better leaving things as they are for now & reconvening after the first quarter of high school was behind us. Guest guest
Thanks Melinda I have another IEP on Friday and I went to the school board this morning. So I will see what will happen at both counts. Hall Melinda <mlndhall@...> wrote: --- <reneemdallas4@...> wrote: > Congrats! I am happy for you and your son. I think they have to give you ten days notice but I'm bad with timelines. They have to make every effort to get the parents to attend the meeting. You can still request another one to go over what they did if you want to change anything. Roxanna
