im not sure if this is what you needed but here it is

STOMP is the only National Parent Training and Information Center

for military families providing support and advice to military

parents without regard of the type of medical condition their child

has.

M husband is AF Reserve out of McGuire AFB, but also works his civilian job

in Boston, but we live in the Hudson Valley, NY. Our area is great for

medical care but our military support is non-existent.

Hi,

My husband is in the military, we are stationed at Hanscom AFB. I truly

feel we could not be in a better place. The doctors are excellent, the

school system is incredible. There are so many fine hospitals in Boston and

the area. You would have access to all of that. We also have a choice

between tricare and the us family healthplan. The healthplan is

affiliated with Children's hospital in Boston. Feel free to email me if you

have any questions.

( ) Question for military families...

Hi, I am new to the site and am wondering if there are any other

military families around that have had issues with insurance. We are

stationed in Little Rock and are seriously considering putting in for

a humanitarian assignment out. Any suggestions of good bases to go

with resources and support for families with these issues?

I can't imagine trying to explain those things to my son. He is almost 7

with a dx of Aspergers and ADHD. How is your son's behavior? How does he

do in school? My son is up and down. He is just the sweetest little guy

one minute and the next he is a monster. He is doing ok in school but that

is with lots of support. That is why we are trying to stay at HAFB. He is

in a great school system with access to some of the best doctors in the

country. But my husband has to PCS to Texas for a school in August. The

school will last only 6 months and they expect us to move our son there for

6 short months. This would mean he would be in 3 school systems within a

year. We are looking for a way to get around it so I can stay here-though

that isn't a great choice either. How long will your husband be gone?

Hello ,

My son is pretty well behaved as far as not thowing fits or being

agressive. The thing that I have problems with is him listening. He

just keeps right on doing things that I have previously asked him

not to do. One of the main things that bothers me the most is him

playing in the water. He plays in the toilet, the sink, the outside

hose, and everywhere else that he can find water. If there is one

drop of water anywhere he will find it. He also has other habits

such as spray cans and chemicals. Everything has to be kept put away

or he is spraying deoderant or hairspray everywhere. He does fairly

well at the school that he is in. He is in kindergarten and goes all

day everyday. He has what they like to call repetative kindergarten

which simply means that he is in two classes of the same

kindergarten that alternate days. He seems to be doing fairly well

although recently he dispises homework. He really gets upset about

math now. He always tells me mom you do it. He is not a very easy

kid to help with homework and he gets frustrated very easily. He

wants to do everything without instruction and get irritated when

you tell him how to do something. He has started reading and is

doing fairly well. He can read all the is at the and them kind of

words as well as all th ryming words like Jan, pan, man, cat, hat,

mat, ect... He is overall a pretty good kid in school and has only

gotten in trouble once for spitting on the bus. That earned him a

detention. As far as the military thing goes, I wish I could tell

you more. His father and I got divorced just prior to his enlistment

and so I only have experiance with getting tricare to pay and so far

they are great about everything. We have never lived on base so it

is hard to imagine what you are going through. I know it is really

hard on my kids for their dad to be gone as long as he has. He went

to boot camp in september of 2004 and has pretty much been gone

since. He has been home to see them like four times in two years for

a total of like six weeks. He just sent me an e-mail from Iraq

saying he will be home for a 2 week leave on or around the first of

June. He has been in Iraq since September of 2005. Well I have said

plenty I am sure.

Hi Janie,

My son doesn't listen either. We have tried everything rewards, taking

things away, stickers. If something works it only works for a short time.

He has an extremely hard time paying attention. He has finally learned to

read. In September he started school with a reading level of 0 but by

February he was at a 15. That was with support at school and at home. He

is obsessive about certain subjects and needs a schedule but I am lucky he

doesn't have any behavior that could get him in real trouble-like playing in

the water or spray cans. You must have to be vigilant all the time about

keeping those things away from him. My son hated doing homework too but I

have resolved that mostly by using a sensory diet with him before doing the

homework. Most nights it works but it takes us almost 2 hours to get a 1st

graders homework done.

It's awful how much your son's Dad has been gone. It isn't fair to

anyone. We have been lucky that my husband hasn't deployed anywhere. Do

the kids constantly ask for him? I can't imagine having to explain that to

my son. He is so argumentative. It is hard to tell him anything.

Tricare is ok, I think if you are off base. When we were living off base

we were out of range of any Military clinic. Now we are on base so I think

they want you to use base services. But here we can get on the US family

health plan which has been wonderful. No problems with referrals either.
