Guest guest
Toni, Hi again. I was wondering how your meeting went with the man you met on the phone that works with, I think you said the Autism Society? and I think you mentioned he also has AS? It's been awhile, I don't remember exactly. Has the GA dept of HR assigned you a case manager yet? I think before I requested any specific services, I would first request thorough evaluations, talk with the case manager and the proffessionals that do the evaluations, and see what advice they have to they have to offer on particular services. Also discuss what you have found to be difficult times for the boys, and also what has been hard for you. Ask about respite services, YOU need a break! Summer is coming up, and at their age, most areas have summer camps for life skills, social skills, survival skills, horse camps, etc. See if there are any scholorships, either through the organization sponsoring the camp, or maybe even human resources, sometimes they have grants available. If you contact the individual camps, they may have a list of private sponsors for their particular program, you just have to dig. Summer camps are great for building independent living skills, and building trust and relationships. As always, research anywhere you are considering. Hope all goes well =) (hugs and prayers) Theresa In , " tsbthatsme " <kbtoni@...> wrote: > > My children have only had speech therapy in school when they were in > elem. school (before we knew they had aspergers). Guest guest
---I talked to him on the phone and made reservations at a hotel in Atlanta to go to Field and meet him in one of the booths. (they were having a walk for autism) I packed the car and my mom and I were all set to go. I went to pick the kids up from school and they WOULD NOT GO! This after I asked them BEFORE I made reservations at the hotel. So we had to call the man and tell him the boys refused to go. He talked to n on the phone and n told *him* he was coming then refused to go! I was so disappointed. I know we can't do things on the spur of the moment around here but they both promised. So we had to call him back and explain. He was very understanding as he does also have aspergers. I haven't got a case worker yet with Dept of HR because I need to get the results and have the meeting with the pyschologist that the ed dept had do their testing that I requested in OCT. I just wanted to kinda get a heads up of what kind of services they *may* have and what others have gotten for their children. As far as camps go I KNOW my kids will not go to any. I have a hard enough time getting one to go to school and the other one would not go either. Especially since his twin wouldn't go. I can hardly get them to spend the night at grandmas that only lives 15 minutes from here! Thanks though for the suggestions! Anybody know what kind of services they can provide? I just have no idea what they will do and what the kids need besides social skills, living day to day skills and organization ...
