Summer school is only free if a child qualifies for it.

As to whether to request testing, ask now and don't worry about how the dates

stack up. Put it in writing always and CC copies to those higher up the food

chain when you feel you will get the brush off. You can even mention, " I asked

last october but I was told...blah blah blah " to document that you did already

ask previously.

I guess I am going to have to look into it a little more...

Would it be worth it now to try to get them to test him? I just learned from

another group that I needed to put my request in writing but I did not do that

the first time around...if I request it now, they are going to put me off

telling me that it is almost the end of the year...this is what they did when I

requested a meeting in 6th grade as well...then nothing ever came of it every

time I asked...

Should I ask now or wait until high school? I can put in a call to the high

school principal to get his opinion and I also have a name at the school board

to call...any idea which is my best course of action first?

Thanks for the information...I had no idea summer school was free with an IEP

disaster...can't find anything. I tried organizing as well with

different color folders..one folder for all homework to turn in the

teachers sign his planner every day and me signing in every

to remember anything 5 minutes after I tell him...he has not yet been

diagnosed Aspergers but we go for an evaluation on Monday...the

school refused an IEP when I asked for one for ADHD...they said he

they are sending me a letter telling me he is in danger of failing

guess...

Thanks for the info Roxanna. They are not requiring summer school if he is only

failing one grade which is the case right now but there are 2 more grades very

close behind...so I am worrying...

Something else to consider... If you have him tested, you can put him

in speical ed/ support classes for those classes he is

failing/failed, and they cannot require him to go to summer school or

repeat a grade. He could be in a resource room for those subjects,

learning at his own pace.
