It's quite a tension breaker usually. Sheri, If your child is in public school they have to provide for him-it is the law. Don't let them put your child in a school that is not in his best interest. If it is their best option but not good for your son, then you should stick to your intuition and do what is best for him--make them step up to the plate. As for scouting-if they are meeting at a school, and that school receives Title 1 funds then IDEA applies to them as well. They have to provide the same accomodations as a school would. They can not discriminate against him just because he has issues. Our scout master stepped up and told the parents what scouting was all about--kids-different one too, not all are the same, but they all belong.....he wrote them a letter and had a meeting to tell them this and about AS. Several parents pulled their son out because of their inability to deal with a child that is different---he said for their son's sake he was sorry to see them leave-as for the parents-they were the one with the problem and so long. We ended up pulling our son out though due to the parents being so nasty to our son and the den leader not willing to step up as the pack master did--the den leader by the way was a Rabi--I would have thought he would be more compasionate. Live and learn and go on. best wishes, Kirsten mom of 11.5 yr. old AS ds --------------------------------- Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Add photos, events, holidays, whatever.
