Subject: ( ) Re: Can you take another RANT?

Ironically, I received my denial letter from Arizona Department of

Developmental Disabilities for . Besides Aspergers, he has

sensory dysfunction.

The letter states that an individual with a diagnosis of PDD, PDD-NOS,

Asoerger's, Rett Disorder or Childhood Disintegrative Disorder are not

eligible to receive service from the state. A diagnosis of Autistic

Disorder (DSM Code 299.00) is accepted.

Is it like this in all the states? I really want to get ahold of my

congressman or someone to get them to do something. I don't know, I am

so angry. Every time I try, I get nothing but a brick wall. Sometimes,

I feel like quitting but is only 5. And he needs services. I

just do not know where to turn.

Thanks for listening (reading)!!

Do ask for clarification and to see the rule book that lists qualifying

attributes so you know what you are dealing with. Also, appeal. Our MR/DD

is so awful and they would turn people down just to make them go away.

People who appealed got services just for going that extra mile. Or because

they actually thought to challenge things. There should be some sort of

evaluation process for people because a dx alone isn't always indicative of

the needs of the person. Get the eval. They refused initially to do the

eval on my ds and he had the dx of autism as well. He was too smart to

qualify. This was NOT listed as a disqualification. Lol. So I argued and

pushed. It took a year's time but eventually, they had to do the

evaluation, which was required anyway! And once they met with him, they had

to admit he qualified.

Thanks, I know I sound like a complete nut but I have looked in our

phonebook and I don't find any mental health agencies in our county

except for the health dept. Would this be the place to call. The health

dept? Thanks again, Toni

*** Definitely call the health department. They should have the

information you need.

--- Monday I am going to spend the day on the phone and I WILL get

some results from SOMEWHERE. My son is falling further and further

behind because he's not been able to go to school because of his

depression. I'll let ya'll know what develops. We are so far behind

just getting a diagnosis last year and the school pussyfooting

around with the testing I requested last fall. We weren't getting

anywhere until I emailed the headmistress and told her that I knew

according to law they had to be tested within 60 days of my request

(thanks to someone here)... Amazingly they called the next week to

say they had set up testing. It is a shame and disgrace that we have

to fumble around in the dark and FORCE people (schools) to help our

children! ok so I degressed into a little rant, forgive me. I just

can feel the frustration and disbelief of all the parents every time

I read these messages!

Hi Toni,

Since your boys are in a private school do the same laws apply.

As far as I know in AL the same laws do not apply to private

schools.

Blessings,

Lona

My son has Asperger's and the department of MR/DD here in Ohio is paying

for his social skills group with a psychologies, speech therapy and also

paid for his occupational therapy. I also have access to Family

resources for additional help based on your income).
