Guest guest
Go Lori! Good for you! Best of luck. FI. " How to Compromise with Your School District Without Compromising Your Child " Mayerson (great book) A great tip I read somewhere said to take cookies or some type of treat to the meetings. Just a good way to show that we are friendly and a team and set a good atmosphere while working together for appropriate services for our kids. Good Luck. Let us know how the meeting comes out! lori jennings <lozzy3us@...> wrote: Wish me luck, I have a team meeting today. The last time I directly spoke to Cole's teachers, it was a bit of a confrontation. The teacher wanted Cole to read and he wouldn't cooperate so she said she let him make the decision to miss recess and read during that time. WRONG! It says in his IEP that he is not to miss recess because he needs that time with his peers and to burn off energy. She chose to tell me this right in front of the entire school as everybody was leaving to go home and of course she wanted Cole to tell me of the decision he had made and he was having a total meltdown. I went in to talk to the principal later that day and she said she would talk to the teachers and I haven't heard anything since. My liazon knows of this incident and she will be there today. Anyway thanks for all your support. I really appreciate all of you! Lori --------------------------------- New Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC for low, low rates. Guest guest
Good Luck Lori: Sometimes teachers just don't get it. They can have the best of intentions but they don't quite have a handle on how they can set our kids up to fail rather than succeed. Be calm. Be strong. (I am talking to myself here.) I have found that people take me more seriously when I am not frothing at the mouth! (I have found this easier said than done, to be honest. Sometimes, I just want to cry.) My son is in a great school district and has a great teacher. However, there are times when she takes an approach that is destined to send my son into a meltdown. For example, one day my son could not/would not complete his sentences in the writing class. She told him if he did 4 sentences, he could go to the gym as a reward. He didn't comply so he didn't get to go to the gym. Result: total meltdown. The background to this was that there had been no gym class that day - they were doing " health " - so my son had had no exercise. My son needs exercise to help him stay calm. He probably could have completed the sentences if she had sent him to the gym FIRST and not set it up as a reward. Sigh! Anyway, my longwinded advice to you is to take the high road - help them to help your son. Best Wishes Trish (mom to Noel aged 15) > > Wish me luck, I have a team meeting today.
