My daughter is big for her age and I have NO idea where it's coming from. I was ALWAYS the shrimp in my class. Right now she wear a size 1 shoe, which is appropriate for her height. That reminds me of something else I wanted to mention... when was a baby, they were always very concerned over her head size and were always measuring and remeasuring at every check up. Guest guest
My poor little guy (3yrs) cries when he see's that I'm about to put a T-shirt on him. It hurts him because his head is too big to go through the hole comfortably. So he mostly wears polo style shirts with buttons to allow room for his noggin. Liz The s <carters5@...> wrote: Yessss! Guest guest
Yep, I remember that problem now that you mention it. Doesn't seem to happen as much now but if ever it did she won't even attempt to wear it, no way! Guest guest
I have 3 words that saved my life: ELASTIC SHOE LACES!! I found them on line and they tie like regular shoe laces but he can slip his shoes off and on and they stay 'tied'. Here's a website where you can get them: http://www.allegromedical.com/daily-living-aids-c519/perma-ty-elastic- shoelaces-tie-once-and-never-have-to-tie-or-untie-again-p192805.html We've cut down on the frustration and headaches considerably by doing this. Good luck! Sherry > > > > I'm curious when your kids were out of velcro shoes & lacing their own > > shoes???? > > My son will be 8 in August & is still in velcro. Guest guest
When she was that age, I'd buy shirts that were a couple of sizes too big so her head would go through them... funny, I'd forgotten about that... Guest guest
I could never buy her button shirts because she'd chew them and I was afraid she'd choke. Guest guest
Mine didn't like buttons rubbing her chin, etc. so I went with more stretchable necklines or those with snaps on the shoulder. She didn't seem to mind the snaps. Guest guest
" Ditto..............my son is almost 18, never has learned to tie well........just keeps his shoes tied and slips them on and off. " Okay... as someone who does just that.... I find myself wondering whats wrong with that? Not tying it at all is one thing but if its tied its tied.... I slip in and out of my shoes all the time with them still tied and its so convenient and wonderfully easy to not untie and retie them each time... of course most times i have to retie after putting them on or else itll be reallyloose and have no support....but....sometimes I dont.At any rate.... i dont waste time untying. We have had the same problem - it always makes me think of Boynton's types of pajamas: " You have to have buttons if you're a moose! " Which is extra funny, because my husband's nickname as a kid was Moose. Bam's head has always been ginormous. I stopped feeling remotely bad about having to have a c-section when I found out how big that head was. No way in hell... Willa
Guest guest
Hi Liz, My son is 12 years old and still in velcro. He is very small for his age so that helps. Interestingly enough, my daughter, who is 8 hates tieing her shoes also. I noticed that she and all of her friends walk around with their shoes untied. Drives me crazy. So I'm not sure if it's really an ASD thing or that all kids are " lazy " and don't want to have to tie their shoes. Both of my kids do the cram and go thing too...where they tie their shoes and then just slip them off etc. Steph > > I'm curious when your kids were out of velcro shoes & lacing their own > shoes???? > My son will be 8 in August & is still in velcro.
