I've often wondered about that, DS is a serious, excellent swimmer who for

some reason is totally focused at meets, and wins a lot. He even swam in our

state Junior Olympics and did very well there.

My son is in the special Olympics but it's through his school. I'm not sure

if it can lead from there or not. A very good question though! I'll be

looking forward to others' answers as well! =)

I am curious if anybody does special olympics and if so how do you get

involved? Our school has a track day and of course everybody can guess how

excited my guy is about that, espicially the running events. long jump and

the softball throw!

Thanks

This may be a dumb question, but does having AS qualify you for the special

olympics?

Thanks,

I don't know about the regular special Olympics (like the national ones or

whatever) but in the schools (at least in this area) if a child is primarily

in learning disabled classes they're eligible for the special Olympics. My

oldest son was in the olympics last year but this year since he's only in

two LD classes, he wasn't eligible to participate.

My nephew is involved in Special Olympics, and I've been to some of his

events. I've considered getting involved, but my gut tells me

it's the wrong placement for her. All of those kids are MR, and she's

not. It was developed for those with MR. They would probably accept

her- she tests as MR in certain areas. But it doesn't feel right to

me...

I did have her in Challenger sports, which is for kids with any and all

dsabilities. I haven't yet tracked them down in our new neighborhood.

Here's the official Little League page:

You contact the Little Leagues around you and ask if they have a

Challenger League or if they know who does nearby.

was welcome with open arms.

Ah, I know nothing of SO in schools... We go to the regular ones. MR

only.
